About this listen

Elvis Cole and Joe Pike are joined by Suspect heroes LAPD K-9 Officer Scott James and his German shepherd, Maggie, in this heart-stopping thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Robert Crais.

Elvis Cole and Joe Pike keep their promises. Even if it could get them killed...

Elvis Cole is hired to find a woman who’s disappeared, a seemingly ordinary case, until he learns the missing woman is an explosives expert and worked for a Defense Department contractor. Meanwhile, LAPD K-9 Officer Scott James and his patrol dog, Maggie, track a fugitive to a house filled with explosives - and a dead body. As the two cases intertwine, they all find themselves up against shadowy arms dealers and corrupt officials, and the very woman they promised to save may be the cause of their own deaths.

I love Robert Crais and I thought the two voices did an excellent job of the narration.
I like the inter-textuality of bringing in characters from his other books, especially Maggie.

Great to listen to

A well worked punchy plot with twists and turns and the usual Elvis Cole panache - thoroughly enjoyed it !!

Crais delivers a page turner

What other book might you compare The Promise to, and why?

This is the usual super high standard of Robert Crais and sits comfortably in the world of Elvis Cole & Joe Pike, if you like the previous novels you'll love this.

Any additional comments?

A 5 star review except for narration which comes in at 4 stars only because no one can match the usual Robert Crais narrator WIlliam Roberts. Although the 2 narrators do a good job they don't quite inhabit and add to the characters as William Roberts does.

Another superb Robert Crais

Great story
Great performance, apart from Pike!

One of the narrators struggled to do Pikes voice, to be fair he tried, sound like he was going to cough up a lung!!

Great!! Except Pike!

I am a great fan of the Elvis Cole books, but somehow this one didn't quite make the mark. I found it tricky believing the dog's thoughts and I am not overly impressed by the character Scott James, he doesn't add to the Cole and Pike mix, and as I say - the dog does have rather humanoid thoughts!
Certainly not up to the standard of the series.

Another great story that really put you there with Cole and Pike in the thick of it. and the usual genius twist towards the end.

Brilliant

Three of Craig’s hero’s came together and performed magnificently- not forgetting Maggie the dog, that makes four heroes

A great combo

Really enjoyed this book. Although not sure about Pike's voice. Got Elvis to a T though.
