Summary

The Razor Gang Murder is the second book in the DC Ruth Hunter Crime prequel series. If you like chilling police procedurals, true-to-life characters and psychological twists, then you’ll love Simon McCleave’s addictive series.

A historic crime. A post-war gangland assassination. Can DC Ruth Hunter find the killer before the deadly feud spills over into the present?

When the remains of a missing teenager are uncovered, DC Ruth Hunter presumes the 40-year-old murder is linked to a knife fight between South London gangs in the 1950s. However, as the investigation widens, Ruth and her impetuous partner DC Lucy Henry, discover a disturbing connection to the dark criminal past of a prominent knight of the realm.

Narrowing down their investigation to an infamous South London club, Ruth begins to uncover a complex web of historic police corruption, brutal protection rackets and celebrity gangsters. When a key witness is viciously murdered, Ruth realises that the killer might be far closer to home than she had ever envisaged.

Can Ruth find the murderer before another witness is executed?

Born in South London, Simon McCleave was a script editor at the BBC and later became a script writer for television and film. He wrote on series such as Silent Witness, Murder in Suburbia, Teachers, Attachments, The Bill, EastEnders and many more. Simon is now a best-selling crime novelist and has just signed a deal to turn the books into a television series.

Peckhams finest

A skeleton found in a wood yard throws up all sorts of mystery and confusion for Ruth and Lucy as the skeleton is not who it seems to be. Another great book by Simon McLeave. The narration is very good , with accents spot on. Lucy is my favourite character, her accent, her attitude and her personality come over so well. I shall be looking out for more performances by Rachel Atkins she makes the book come alive.

The Razor Gang Murder

I really liked the early Simon Mccleave books but not this series. I am fairly sure there was a good story line there but I couldn’t get past the ‘comedy’ cop voices and wired accents and as for the gangsters I just wanted to laugh. The narrator had a good voice and tempo till she tried the accents - sorry!
