Through books 2 to 5 i struggled with the non stop internal monologue.
But book 5 really took the biscuit, it essentially 90% introspection from the various characters. Its too much, you just want it to stop and actually move the story forward.
After 4.5 books and hours of character introspection I dont really feel much for the characters. So the introspection isn't really doing the job. I resented the massive pauses to the story it caused, it's frustrating and boring.
the series has massive potential but I can't take it any more. A character cant do a single action without it being followed by 10 minutes of internal monologue.
ive had to stop listening

Running out of story

This book seems to act as a vehicle for the author to set up the events of the next book and to delve into the motivations of the characters in more detail than he has previously. That is not to say that I was bored for a moment but neither was I as enthralled as I have been with the other books in this series.
If this book is the quiet before the storm of the finale of the series then it may prove to be worthwhile but if D.J. Molles is intending to churn out three or four more books in this series then perhaps it is bad time for the narrative to run out of steam. I honestly have no idea when he intends to end the series and nor can I find any details online (so I suppose time will tell) but I hope the end is in sight.
Christian Rummel, as always, puts in a good performance.
An Acceptable Continuation of a Great Series.
