About this listen

A family tragedy.

Amy's always felt like something's been missing in her life. When a tragedy forces the family she works for as a nanny to retreat to a small lakeside cottage, she realises she cannot leave them now.

A sister's secret.

But Amy finds something unsettling about the cottage by the lake. This is where the children's mother spent her childhood - and the place where her sister disappeared mysteriously at just 17.

A web of lies.

Soon Amy becomes tangled in the missing sister's story as dark truths begin rising to the surface. But can Amy unlock the secrets of the past before they repeat themselves?

I really enjoyed this one and was caught up in the story right from the beginning but I wasn't expecting what came out at the end. Call my naive! Amy is a young girl who has been working as a nanny/housekeeper for a family in France when tragedy happens and the family have to return to Somerset to a small, cold cottage. Strange things happen in the cottage and Amy is determined to get to the bottom of it while protecting her charges. She falls in love and I really wanted it to turn out well for all.

Great story - unexpected ending

Loved this. Some parts of the story were a bit boring but it kept you guessing right up until the end. Brilliant listen!

A great story line, keeps you interested till the end. The narrator didn’t suit me, a bit over expressive, and therefore sounded disingenuous. Better when speeded up!

Super plot. Narrator not for me

This story although set in the 1960s has a modern theme and a twist.

The plotline develops well throughout the story. I liked the spookiness of the story - present but not overwhelming. At times I found it difficult to believe it was set in the 60s as some of the themes were quite modern. But overall a good listen.

Very disappointing after reading the "house by the sea" too drawn out and too long
