Summary

An eighty-year-old man is found murdered in his home. His age and standing in the community makes finding his killer difficult–why would anyone harm an elderly man? What threat could he possibly be to anyone?

With no apparent motive, DS George Cross canvases the community for potential suspects but the man was known as generous, charitable, community-minded. Each interview about who the man is muddies the picture further. So Cross decides to look for who he was–revealing a past that is far less honourable than his present . . .

Perfect for fans of MW Craven, Peter James and Joy Ellis, The Teacher is part of the DS George Cross thriller series, which can be listened to in any order.

'I am insanely in love with George Cross, a perfect detective for our time and for all time.' STEPHEN FRY

Love this serie

A great story with important and up to date themes. Finlay Robertson is a truly first class narrator.

As always Tim Sullivan, kept me guessing until the end. More of George Cross please.

Spoilt by the narrator

I really like the DC Cross series , but i found the narrator to be terrible, over long pauses and dragging emphasis constantly really was not conducive to a good listen, such a shame as ever Tim Sullivan delivered the goods.i will be reading the next one in the series on my kindle

Just gets better and better.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Tim Sullivan’s development of the main characters throughout the series makes them come alive, especially George whose neurodivergent behaviour and comments make me laugh out loud at times. I’ve become very fond of his oblivious innocence. I was irritated by Findlay Robertson’s narration; his mispronunciation of common words, such as ‘burgalry’ instead of ‘burglary’ really grates. His pauses part way through a sentence led me listen at 1.1 speed, which was a definite improvement.
Story wise, I guessed the culprit fairly early on but was never quite sure until the end. There are lots of twists and turns and I definitely recommend this book. When’s the next one due?

George Cross, great series . Not violent, vulgar or crass.

Love this series, characters continue to develop. Plot maintained well , interesting sub plot especially in relation to police force. Recommend this book and series.

Absolutely brilliant

Really enjoyed all the previous books in this series, and this is the best so far. George is a really interesting character and the storyline of this one keeps him on his toes to the very last minute.
Brilliantly read.

Another great story

The series is compelling and enjoyable. Having a sibling with the same condition I can easily relate to George, he's so believable. The storyline was interesting and well played out, lots of red herrings although I did 'spot' the real culprit early one even without any evidence so was chuffed when it all turned on the bad person.

The narrator was excellent as usual. For me he's the perfect voice and paces the reading appropriately. I've just returned a book being read by its (well known) author because of the dreadful narration so appreciate the job being done so well.

Familiarity with surprising twists

I love the characters in this series and how they have developed over time. The plot is intriguing and surprising at times. Sensitively deals with a range of issues through a great story.
