About this listen

The final installment in Elodie Harper's Sunday Times bestselling Wolf Den Trilogy Amara's journey has taken her far; from a slave in Pompeii's wolf den to a high-powered courtesan in Rome... though her story is not over yet. While Amara plays for power in Rome's imperial palace, those dearest to her remain in Pompeii. But it is AD 79, and mighty Mount Vesuvius is about to make itself known... 'Beautiful, moving, captivating.' JENNIFER SAINT 'Vivid, unsentimental and compelling.' THE TIMES

Read this after visiting Pompei. The author brings the streets to life, and describes the horror and confusion of the escape from Vesuvius. Also fascinating about Roman society and life then.

set against the background of the Roman empire and amidst the streets of Pompeii and the shadow of Mt Vesuvius, we meet Amara, a freed slave, engaged to an important Roman. she has come a long way from her position in the Wolf Den brothel in book 1 of the same name and this book picks up immediately after the events of book 2 The House with the Golden Door. Amara's status always seems to hang in the balance though with her previous owner present as a menacing threat to revert her back to her old days. There is so much drama in this book based around the natural disaster of Mt Vesuvius. Its eruption causes chaos and shapes the course of events for all and bringing so much loss. an absolutely absorbing listen.

an absorbing and dramatic audiobook

What a way to end a trilogy literally with a bang. Outstanding in every way, ruthless when it needs to be. Everyone knows how Pompei ended and this painted such a clear picture of how devastating it can be

Masterclass in literary work
