But not everyone plays by the rules. When an ageing ex-con finally gets out of jail, freedom doesn't taste too sweet. His son is gunned down in a drive-by shooting. It seems like a random crime, but when the victim is a cop - especially a cop with a con for a father - the motives are never simple.

Classic Robert Crais, you think you have worked it out but then it's always something or some one you haven't thought of. Loved it

Excellent as always

I more or less liked the story, but there were moments when the hero behaved in an extremely un-hero like fashion and was plain stupid. I felt that marred it a little. Nevertheless the author’s usual skill in unfolding a detective story was once more strongly evident.

Ever since “the last detective” Robert Crais has written really good crime novels on par with Michael Connelly and the like. And this is no exception
