Between 1993 and 1998, eight women went missing from an area around Dublin that became known as the ‘Vanishing Triangle’. Was there a link? Speculation abounded. There were whispers of a serial killer, responsible for some, if not all, of these cases. But nobody was ever brought to justice.
Twenty years later, the brutal murder of Jastine Valdez disturbs crime Novelist Claire McGowan into action. Reminded, like many in Ireland, of those previous missing women, McGowan brings her skills as a novelist to the real world, setting out to uncover the truth of the vanishing triangle. As she digs deeper, she finds something terrible lurking behind the idyllic image of rural Ireland and the 21st century success story of the ‘Celtic Tiger’. An incompetent police force, a traumatised nation and, a rank, murderous misogyny.
But are the disappearances linked? Are they linked with other murders? Was there, is there, a serial killer on the loose?

Most recent projects include ‘Don’t Leave Me’ directed by Hadi Hajaig and a collaboration with the composer Stephen Rennicks on the BBC3/HULU series Normal People. Sarah has also performed live and recorded with artists such as Hozier, Shane McGowan, Mumford and Sons and Ed Sheeran.

Learned about the cases , but the book did ramble
My rating is based on that I would have preferred a book more focused strictly on these cases. I felt that at times the book strayed into other elements of the author’s feelings or personal story.
I prefer this types of books to stick to the facts of the story rather than the authors interpretation.
Having said that I did learn about the Irish cases , but would’ve preferred if the book formally stuck to these.

Excellent
Although I’m Irish, living in the south, female and in my 30’s so much of the book was new to me. I felt it was excellently researched. I have heard of some of the missing women’s cases but in all I learned new facts and possible links, suspects etc. An eye opening read over all.

Incredibly well put together

More agenda than story
Interesting and valid points but its pushed as an agenda more than a story. it's also very misleading, It doesn't cover the triangle murders, it covers anything on her agenda.
And it goes on and on about women taking taxis etc being blamed for their own murders. No sane person blame a women in this situation. Taking a taxi or walking home is a risk, it's an extremely small risk, and no one thinks anyone is to blame other than the murderer.

Well narrated - this book is eye opening to not just these specific events but to systemic misogyny that allows violence against women & femiside to prevail

excellent
I really enjoyed this. I was horrified at the treatment of women. Claire's words on the lot of a woman in the latter half was spot on. I feel it should be played to all secondary school aged kids both male and female. It's a fascinating group of crimes and it is told well.

a timely reminder of unworked investigations.
The information was delivered well and r rendered fresh by the authers Iintetest. Timely and compassionate telling. Such a pity therefore to aow the authors lastones to be repeatedly chopped a d rerun. AS IF THE EDITOR HAD FALLEN ASLEEP.

Beautifully written and read
This is a brilliant, shocking and very moving account of a series of unsolved cases in Ireland's 'Vanishing Triangle'. As we're told at the outset, this isn't a traditional 'whodunnit' true crime story. It's much more than that - an in depth and very personal look at the social and political structures which could have led to such terrible crimes taking place, and the challenges women have, and continue to face. The author has taken so much care to give each woman a voice and portray them as human beings, rather than simply victims, and I found it incredibly moving and poignant.
