About this listen

Mankind has ceded the night to the corelings, demons that rise up out of the ground each day at dusk, killing and destroying at will until dawn, when the sun banishes them back to the Core. As darkness falls, the world’s few surviving humans hide behind magical wards, praying the magic can see them through another night. As years pass, the distances between each tiny village seem longer and longer. It seems nothing can harm the corelings, or bring humanity back together.

Born into these isolated hamlets are three children. A Messenger teaches young Arlen that fear, more than the demons, has crippled humanity. Leesha finds her perfect life destroyed by a simple lie and is reduced to gathering herbs for an old woman more fearsome than the demons at night. And Rojer’s life is changed forever when a traveling minstrel comes to his town and plays his fiddle.

But these three children all have something in common. They are all stubborn and know that there is more to the world than what they’ve been told, if only they can risk leaving their safe wards to find it.

Excellent Format...

So many great characters and all played by some fantastic actors. Great story with fantastic sound effects just like a T.V. film, all very much atmospheric.

Very easy listening!

Put on in the background, you could be listening to a movie. Makes me wanting a TV series or a movie.

Love the series and enjoyed this more than I though I would

So The demon cycle books are up there with my all time favs and I’ve both read and listened to the books many times but this is my first time listening to a dramatised version. I struggled a bit at first but actually the actors/narrators did an amazing job and I really enjoyed it, so much so that I’ve just purchased the rest of the series and can’t wait to get stuck in!

Great story, pacey narrator!

The story is great amd well thought out. unfortunately the original audiobook is better but only because the narrator seems to be in a hurry to read his part. The characters are all performed excellently but the narrator seems intent on delivering 'no pun intended' his lines in a speedy tone that falls short of the stories full potential.
still enjoyed it and will try the next book in the dramatised version but if it's the same then I will likely stick to the originals.

I've read the book before and loved it but I fancied listening to the "dramatised adaption" Awful. Just awful. Don't bother
