Summary

A genetic mutation lay dormant for hundreds of years. Finally, awakened, will the human race survive, or crumble beneath its might?

Jensen Atwood has maintained a simple life at a dead-end job while spending all his free time gambling at a casino in Atlantic City. One of these days, he hopes to win enough to allow him to move from his hometown and escape his past. Unbeknownst to Jensen, he has been carrying a genetic mutation that is about to change his and everyone else's life on the planet.

He encounters Liam, a leader of a group of Transcendents known as the Empyreans. The Empyreans fantasize about bringing the might of the Transcendent world into the public eye and becoming the new alpha species. Thanks to Liam, his supernatural abilities are realized and released, allowing him full access to a power hidden in the shadows his whole life.

After a daring rescue from Sloan and Aiden, two Transcendents on the opposite end of the spectrum from Liam, Jensen plunges into a supernatural game of tug-o-war. Both sides fight for what they believe in. One wants to keep Transcendents from becoming public knowledge, while the other wants to oust them and push the non-Transcendents to the way of the dinosaurs. What would happen if the world realized they had this power? What if a third of the planet had a superpower? Would humanity survive?
