Fear and loathing on the 2020 campaign trail....

'Feb 26, White House briefing room: the coronavirus feels like it is changing everything.... Coronavirus is suddenly not just a public health emergency; it has the potential to upend Trump's whole campaign.... '

Our man in America, BBC North America Editor Jon Sopel, presents a diary of an election like we've never quite seen before. Experience life as a White House reporter on the campaign trail, as the election heats up and a global pandemic slowly sweeps in, challenging the very institutions of American politics and the Trump presidency. As American lives are lost at a devastating rate, the election becomes a battle for the very soul of the nation.

In this highly personal account of reporting America in 2020, Jon Sopel takes you behind the senses of White House in crisis and an election in turmoil. Expertly laying bare the real story of the 2020 campaign in a panoramic account of an election and a year like no other.

Well worth a listen

Very enjoyable and engaging. He is clearly not a Trump fan but really the facts speak for themselves. We all witnessed the disinfectant debacle. His delivery is good too. Highly recommend.

An Insightful, Intelligent, Yet Humourous Listen!

Jon Sopel has written a brilliant account of a very unique year. Mostly about the 2020 US election but also touching on many other aspects of American life and happenings in the country, he inserts his own experiences and insights to give you a real 'inside Washington view too.
Lovely to hear him reading it of course, though at times he seems to shout a little which is a shame because usually his voice is quite soothing to listen to! I suspect reading an entire book out loud is pretty tiring!
Highly recommend this, I was very sad when it ended as I totally binge listened! More like this please Jon!

wonderfull diary of US 2020 election

Excellent diary of US election event, which also captured the COVID outbreak from the start and gives superb insight to its effects on those working through it to cover news and deliver an election.

Great insight, with a touch of humour

John Soppel is actually in his 60s...but his contemporary writing style is perfect for listening to, excellent book written at a time that we should all remind ourselves of whenever we vote!

Say it as it is (was)

I absolutely loved this. Resonated with recollections of this awful period -well read, written, witty thought provoking and can’t wait for more of the same although I suspect sleepy Joe doesn’t quite have the same journalistic output! ( meshugeneh v mentch ? )n’est pas?
