Summary
Movie star 101: A smile hides all pain.
Quellcrist King has been playing a part his entire life. The more famous he becomes, the more he hides. The only person he ever let see the real him rose with him from nothing to the very top.
They were the king and queen of Hollywood - and then she wanted a divorce. The only way to survive his depression is to bury himself in work. If he can be a character, maybe he won't have to remember himself. A gay role can't be any different than playing a straight one, can it?
But instead of finding solace in the character, he finds it in his costar. Hale becomes his best friend, his lifeline, the light in his darkness. Quell is forced to examine everything he thought he knew about himself while filming intimate scenes with Hale that feel more real than anything ever has before.
He's lived his entire life following the script. What would life be like unscripted?
Contains mature themes.

Good slow burn
This was a glacially slow burn that was only bearable because the story and characters were very good and the narration was excellent

This is a heartwarming slow burn romance
Quell and Hale's story is realistic and heartfelt. It's even more challenging when you have a relationship with a spouse who makes your depression worse.
Quell didn't tell his wife about his feelings, but that's beside the point. Despite knowing about his illness, she was still selfish and never cared about his wellbeing. Hale was exactly what Quell needed, he really cared about him, and their chemistry was incredible.
It's definitely a slow burn romance, but the build was great. However, I wasn't satisfied with the ending. It was rushed. I would have liked to have seen more of them together.

Entertaining
Entertaining story about an actor keeping a secret because his ex asks him to, which undermines his blooming romance with a colleague. Lots of wool gathering. Well narrated.

Painfully repetetive
The only reason I purchased this book was because I love both narrators. However, I really struggled to finish it as the same issues in their weak relationship were hammered out over and over and over!!! Very disappointed that I wasted so much time listening to it.
I still love the narrators but they had a hard job on making anything of this story.

Definitely won't be finishing the series
Great story but Unfortunately I found it way too slow. The person who narrated Hale was excruciatingly painful to listen to. I seriously struggled to finish this book and i think Hales voice was the main reason.

Underwhelming
Personally, I don't like conflict build on simple miscommunication. Everything misunderstanding that could be sorted with a single sentence is not worth being put into a plot. Especially, if one party doesn't let the other finish explanating by running off like a drama queen. Don't know about American guys, but no man I know acts that irrational or childish.
The narration is.. underwhelming. Joel Leslie carries a constant quiver in his voice that makes him sound close to tears and different inflections for the characters are basically non-existent.

Dual narrators doesn’t work
I love each of these narrators individually to the point I will listen to pretty much anything Joel Leslie narrates but having two authors and 2voices for each character that are wildly different doesn’t work at all. I can’t tell which character is speaking at all.
