Santa Montefiore
About this listen
'Nobody does epic romance like Santa Montefiore' JOJO MOYES
Rupert promised he was going to come back. All Florence had to do was wait.
Cornwall, 1944
When Rupert Dash is declared missing, presumed dead during the Battle of Arnhem, his wife, Florence, is devastated. She can’t accept that he has gone from her life forever, and so when she finds a poem called ‘Wait for Me’ hidden in an old book, she believes it’s a sign from her husband. A promise that he will return to her.
London, 1988
Since childhood Max has suffered from a recurring nightmare. Surrounded by the horrific chaos of World War Two, he has an urgent mission he knows he must complete. But time after time, the dream ends with him awaking in terror, his heart pounding from the horror of the battlefield. Desperate to understand why he is haunted by such terrible visions, Max embarks on a journey that leads him to Cornwall and a man named Rupert Dash.
Australia, 1995
Florence receives a letter from someone she has never met, who lives on the other side of the world. This stranger says he remembers a life that belonged to another before him. Could this be the one person Florence has waited over fifty years to meet again?
'Based on a true story this gorgeous sweeping romance crossing time and continents is completely captivating as Florence epitomises the enduring power of love' My Weekly©2023 Santa Montefiore (P)2023 Simon & Schuster, UK

Not what I expected
I felt disappointed with this book, it is not like other I have listened to by this author. I had expected so much more but after all the build up the ending was a let down and didn't really fit, as though the author just wanted to get it over with. The female narrator did a good job, but the male narration was quite wooden and flat and didn't seem to flow as well.

Ok, not my favourite
It was a good idea but characters never really grasped my interest. Not my favourite by this author.

Very moving story
I wasn’t sure about this book at the beginning but I was soon enthralled by it and couldn’t stop listening to it. Beautifully written and narrated the subject something I hadn’t touched on before. I was in tears on several occasions and the poem used was simply beautiful. I’ll definitely be recommending to my friends.

Disappointing
The story started well and I found the subject intriguing. The narration was good. Unfortunately, for me the last quarter of the story seemed to lose momentum and the conclusion rushed and implausible.

The wonderful characterisation and narration!
Nothing to dislike fantastic heart moving story line would love Robert and Florence, Max and Robyn’s story to become a film! Didn’t want it to end! Another beautiful book can’t wait for more!

Loved it!
I’ve never read a story about reliving another life before. This was really interesting. Again tho - another book by Santa Montefiore that didn’t disappoint and I’m now looking for the next one. She’ll have to start writing quicker than I’m reading them as I’m going thru them so quickly!

Disappointing
I absolutely love Santa Montefiore’s books and waited for this release with eager anticipation. I did read through to the end but found the story trite and rushed. The love storylines were rushed and not very credible, the reincarnation storyline was a little silly to my mind and the end was very predictable. It was hard to believe this was the same author who wrote Meet Me Under The Ombu Tree, a marvellous, epic story which held me spellbound from beginning to end. However I still love Santa and hope that the next book she writes will be back to the wonderful epic novels I have come to expect from her.
