Following the breakdown of her marriage, Theo has bought a tumbledown cottage on the banks of the river Tamar which divides Cornwall and Devon. The peace and tranquillity of Boatman’s Cottage, nestled by the water, is just what she needs to heal.
Yet soon after her arrival, Theo discovers a stash of hidden letters tied with a ribbon, untouched for more than a century. The letters – sent from the battlefields of France during WW1 – tell of a young servant from the nearby manor house, Abbotswood, and his love for a woman he was destined to lose.
As she begins to bring Boatman’s Cottage and its gardens back to life, Theo pieces together a story of star-crossed lovers played out against the river, while finding her own new path to happiness.
The River Between Us beautifully explores the mystery and secrets of a long-forgotten love affair, and will be loved by fans of Kate Morton.

A Wonderful And Beautiful Story
Gosh, where do I begin. I came to this book because of the beautiful voice of Lucy Scott. This is my fourth book narrated by Lucy, she's absolutely wonderful to listen to. But I'm so glad that Lucy has led me to this fantastic author Liz Fenwick. I enjoyed this wonderful story so much, a tear in my eye at the end! I loved how the story went between two timelines. A story of love, loss, lessons and passion. All of the characters I loved so much, but especially Lady Alice, Edmund and Zach. I know this will not be the last book I read from this author, I will probably listen to them all! Such a big heartfelt thank you to Liz Fenwick and Lucy Scott, honestly the power of writing, the power of narrating, the escapism into an imaginary world, that is so vivid! Just beautiful! ❤️

Another very enjoyable book by Liz Fenwick
I have read this book twice now and enjoyed it both times. The first time I read it we were in the throws of lockdown with covid and I was thinking of tracing my past. This book gave me the idea to look into DNA.
It was an interesting look into the not so distant past as my Grandad had gone to war too and my mother must have been about John's age. they never wanted to speak of the war and the war years.
The people that fought and won woman's rights I never heard about first hand as we lived so far away from the action. What a lot of good works went on back then.
Without instant communication other than telegrams life must have been so different.
Thank you Liz for your research into our past lives I really enjoyed reading both your story and between the lines.

Beautiful storyline
This is the first book I have listened to by Liz Fenwick. I struggled with the first few chapters and could not get into it. For me the reading was a bit disjointed and some of the conversations between characters were a bit convoluted and I started to lose interest. However, I persevered as I wanted to know where the story was going. Whether I got more used to the reader's style or whether it was because the story was flowing more I'm not sure, but as it went on the tale unfolded beautifully into one of mystery and forbidden love, full of twists and turn. The story flitted between 2019 and 1914, back and forth and the mysteries unravelled and pieced together well, bringing with it a mixture of emotions. I'm glad I kept going with it and felt a bit sad when it ended. I'd like to try another of Liz Fenwick books if this one is anything to go by.

Intriguing and complicated story.
Quite enjoyed it but not too keen on the narrator - not very natural sounding. Storyline rather too coincidental but intriguing. A real family saga

Just a great story
Knowing the area it is set in I did not need to imagine scenery.,I loved how they describe the gardens. However, the story held me from the very start. The end. This was just a lovely story and I’m looking forward to going to have a nice cream tea at that hotel.
