About this listen

Billionaire businessman in need of a fake fiancée...

It should be the easiest job ever for an out-of-work actress, right?

All I have to do is pose as Grant Caldwell (the Third)’s fiancée for a fancy-pants weekend in the Hamptons. Easy. Wear designer clothing and sip champagne? Don’t mind if I do. Flirting with Grant? It’s so delicious I should be paying him.

Nothing can go wrong as long as I can keep my hands off of him.

But that’s the hard part. And I do mean hard.

Because Grant is sexy. And bossy. And surprisingly sweet, a real rarity in his pretentious family.

Oops. I’m not as good at faking it as I thought. Or maybe they call this method acting. Because it’s getting harder to figure out where my character ends and I begin....

It just might be the role of a lifetime.

Weekend Wife is a stand-alone romantic comedy with a sexy billionaire, a sassy heroine, and a happily ever after.

5 stars for the audiobook!

I had read the ebook version of the story about 2 years ago, and I liked it, but the audiobook version was so much more fun. The story itself combines fake relationship and billionaire tropes, along with some witty writing and likable main characters (especially compared to most of Grant’s family).

The audiobook is performed by Laura English and Gavin McAllister, both new-to-me narrators, and they did an amazing job. I would definitely listen to more by the author and/or narrators in the future.

Funny and romantic!

Just when I needed a funny, easy, romantic listen, Erin McCarthy comes through with Weekend Wife! I absolutely loved her Fast Track audio series and was thrilled to see this release. Meet Leah. Starving actress, she is working at a diner where she has a crush on Grant, a regular. Serving him breakfast, while exciting for her even though his moods are not the best was a bright spot in her day. That is until he decides he is no longer going to frequent the diner, leaves her a big tip and walks out.Running after him, she injures herself and from there our story truly begins. These two have have such chemistry, it only makes sense to hire her to be his girlfriend for the weekend. He needs to get his family off his back. Funny, frustrating, crazy family, passionate, you name it and McCarthy weaves her story. Grant is a character. He is in love with Leah, but being afraid of commitment, leaves him stuck in his own head. Leah is ambitious, ready to take the role all the way, and at points we wonder, is she even acting? And hysterical family members, leaving us with our mouths hanging open, laughing and completely shocked at times. I loved this story with the "sassy" Leah! She had me at the first breakfast order!

Narrated by Laura English and Gavin McAllister, these two new to me narrators had my attention! English plays the sassy role to a "t" and creates the persona of Leah perfectly. She keeps her attitude in check, but we can feel her frustration and love pouring out through her voice. McAllister nails the part of Grant. Self confident, yet unsure, business like, yet alluring, this man has Grant's personality figured out. Together, their comedic timing and voices compliment each other and had my smiling the entire listen.

So much fun! LOL Romcom you can’t miss!

Weekend Wife, Sassy In The City Book 1 by Erin McCarthy

Narrated by Laura English and Gavin McAllister

This book was such a comedic relief that I didn’t realize I needed! If you need a light hearted Laugh Out Loud audiobook, look no further. This is one Romcom you don’t want to miss.

Leah is your typical struggling actress trying her hardest to life her dream of making it big in the Big Apple. She’s had some shows but is still working at achieving success so she highlights at a diner where other aspiring actors work. A quirky diner where the staff is encouraged to sing and act out. Leah has a crush on a businessman who comes into the diner weekly for his pancake fix and always tries flirting with him but Grant is the businessman through and through so it doesn’t seem to go anywhere when she tries engaging him for more.

Grant loves his emotional past to the diner he frequents weekly but he thinks it’s time to end his foolishness so he leaves a very generous tip for server whose caught his eye during the months he has gone to the diner and gets up to leave.

When Leah sees the tip she immediately believes it to be a mistake and runs after him.

This is where the story begins. When after helping Leah home; he decides to hire her to play his girlfriend for a family weekend.

Right from the start these two are kismet hearts of each other but they don’t see it immediately.

We get to see a bunch of shenanigans in the Caldwell estate over the weekend as we see these two grow fonder of each other. All while dealing with extremely hilarious family members. I’m still in tears from laughter how there story enfolds.

Laura English handles the sassy, creative and spunky Leah to a “T” like she channels her spirit. And Gavin McAllister was the distinguished gentleman that was Grant Caldwell the Third. The cast of crazy family members were all acted out fabulous in this fun, entertaining book.

A Fake Fiancée Romantic Comedy

Weekend Wife by Erin McCarthy is a fake fiancée romantic comedy that I listened to on audio narrated by Laura English and Gavin McAllister. This is the first book in the Sassy In The City series and can be read as a standalone.

This is the first book of Erin's that I have read and it won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't help but listen in one sitting. I really enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Grant and Leah.

Laura and Gavin did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like romantic comedies, fake fiancée romances, or contemporary romances.

I laughed hard.

I got this audiobook via a promo code from The Flock and this is my voluntary review.

I came in not knowing what to expect, having never read this author before and I absolutely loved getting to know Leah and Grant, together they're just melting my heart. Leah, a struggling actress, has a crush on a customer at the diner where she works. Grant is the sexy, wealthy man she fantasises about, but what would a guy like him want with a girl like her? Every Wednesday, Grant has been coming to the diner on a weekly basis for the past 11 months because of his crush on waitress/aspiring actress Leah. He does so to put his "self-control" to the test. When they are thrown together by chance, their chemistry is off the charts. Grant has a proposal for Leah, and she is thrilled to be able to spend time with him. These two were completely smitten with each other but didn't want to admit it. Everything about this story was fantastic.
