Summary
The gripping standalone thriller from the Richard & Judy bestselling author, the master of suspense who brought us The Secrets She Keeps
'Why won't he let you go?' I ask.
'He thinks he owns me.'
To Philomena McCarthy, being a police officer means never turning your back on someone in trouble. So when a decorated detective beats his girlfriend and the case is covered up, Phil secretly helps her.
But as Phil lets her new friend deeper into her life, sinister things start happening.
And by the time she's truly afraid, it's already too late . . .

Disappointing
Michael Robotham is one of my top authors, but this was a real disappointment. I felt I was listening to chicklit rather than suspense. The narrator didn't help - this narrator would be much more suited to Bridget Jones' Diary than a suspense thriller. The voice was just not right for the novel, and I mean no disrespect to Katy Sobey, who, I am sure, is the perfect voice for other genres. The male voices were not well performed, and the main character came across as weak and whiny. I might give this novel another go, but in print rather than audio. Somehow, though, I think not. I expected boxing gloves, and got a predictable, somewhat toothless feather duster.

Sorry works, but overall a disappointing listen
Firstly I have to say that Michael Robotham is one of my favourite authors and the reason I bought this book.
With that in my I have to say that this one left me a little disappointed. While the story wasn't bad, the main character and many of the surrounding ones didn't feel quite believable to me. There was also definitely something missing in the delivery/narration of the book, the repetitive tone felt bland and I very nearly have up in it.
it had a good plot and ending,, but i don't think I'd rush back to a sequel.

So good, I couldn't stop listening!
Another outstanding book from Michael. It is so hard for a writer to keep producing first-class, exciting, and interesting reads. I'm seen many of my favourite authors fail to hit the mark recently. Thankfully it hasn't been that way for Michael.
This is a really good listen and the narrator does a fabulous job with it. Her voice, tempo and character changes are pretty much perfect. It makes such a difference when the narrator is good and Kathy just brought the Phil character to life.
I won't spoil the story, but there are great twists and it definitely kept me listening every opportunity I got and more so near the end. Couldn't stop today!
It's a winner!

Terrible narration
Loved the story but the narration was irritating. Hope they change the reader if this becomes a series

Cleverly written with twists and turns
Main character naive for police officer. She makes problems for herself, however without the problems there would be no plot.
She complains a lot about things that are of her own making, so lost sympathy with her.
Very easy to listen to though as with Michael Rowbotham's books

Fantastic, kept me guessing
Great pacing and characters. Narration was good, aside from the slightly dodgy Belfast accent. Thoroughly recommend

Not a favourite
I love Michael Robotham and as soon as I saw this book was
Available for preorder I purchased straight away.
When I finished this book I was left rather underwhelmed and slightly disappointed. I found the storyline predictable which is not the norm when you read one of Michaels books.
However, it was beautifully written and wonderfully narrated. Not a bad story at all but like a said, just predictable.

Full of drama and detail
Michael writes books that keep you interested in the characters and leave you wondering what happens next. He tells complex stories with a light touch. I just love every book he writes.
