About this listen
"Narrator Gabra Zackman engages with this weird, grim novel, a combination of fantasy and mystery...her superb pacing and intense emotions add to the story's strange and intriguing atmosphere." (AudioFile Magazine)
After attacking Devil's Reef in 1928, the US government rounded up the people of Innsmouth and took them to the desert, far from their ocean, their Deep One ancestors, and their sleeping god, Cthulhu. Only Aphra and Caleb Marsh survived the camps, and they emerged without a past or a future.
The government that stole Aphra's life now needs her help. FBI agent Ron Spector believes that communist spies have stolen dangerous magical secrets from Miskatonic University, secrets that could turn the Cold War hot in an instant and hasten the end of the human race. Aphra must return to the ruins of her home, gather scraps of her stolen history, and assemble a new family to face the darkness of human nature.

Refreshing alternate take on the Lovecraft Mythos
A very different take on the story of Innsmouth and the Deep Ones, portraying them not as monsters but as victims
Set many years after the destruction of Innsmouth following the story of 2 survivors from government prison camps where all the population of Innsmouth were held captive.
It's a very spiritual take on the the Cthulhu Mythos and I really enjoyed the progression of the characters through the story along with the mystical and at times strangely gentle Deep Ones

Love it.
I really enjoyed 'The Litany of Earth' by the same author and have been looking forward to this 'book' for months. A low key story set in a Lovecraftian universe, it rattles along to a satisfying conclusion. I loved the setting and the characters.
The narration was excellent as well.

Standing and different take on Lovecraftian themes
What a refreshing take on Lovecraft and the denizens of Innsmouth. If you are a Lovecraft reader, I think you will enjoy it tremendously.
So how is it different from Lovecraft?
Post WW 2 sensibilities, emergence of the women, the interned nissei and survivors of Innsmouth.
A story, from the perspective of the Children of Dagon.
I am so glad i found this book.
The performance and oices are outstanding. Great performance by Gabra Zackman.
Nice plot line, not so in-your-face horror as HPL. New Lovecraft for a new world.
