Can humanity survive what it never saw coming?

A journalist wanders the wretched reality of an empty New York, searching for his wife and son. A serial killer must hunt in a land where prey is now an endangered species. A mother shields her young daughter from danger through every terror-filled breath.

A bullied teen is thrilled to find the world gone missing, until the knock on his door. A fugitive survives a fiery plane crash. Will he be redeemed, or return to the killing he's best at? An eight-year-old boy sets out on a journey to find his missing family, only to find something that will change him forever. These survivors aren't truly alone...

Someone or something is watching them. And waiting...

Almost like "Lost" with a broad plot potential

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

It's alright but I wouldn't recommend it unless they are fans of Lost. The story is quite abstract and it's been told so that literally anything is plausible.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Most interesting: I suppose that idea that 99% of the population disappear at a certain moment in time. Least interesting: The last scene's characters were very cringe-worthy. Made me will it to end. Also with the constant switching of character perspective's I lost concentration of who was important and who to have any emotional attachment to.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Narration was adequate. The pace of the story was quite slow.

Was FREE Yesterday's Gone: Season 1 - Episode 1 worth the listening time?

I'd say for about 70% of it. The other 30% I had enough and wanted to finish.

Any additional comments?

Given that this is a free taster and having tasted what this series is about; I'm not too sure if I would want to listen to any more.

Best Free Episode I stumbled across!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would. It's been written beautifully and the story is really well done. I love the format they've done this book in, each chapter features a different character(s) and then you hear from them again in later chapters. The narration of this book truly makes it, each character sounds different and it's like your watching this in front of you. It's been dramatised so well and it's very addictive, you just want to keep reading (well listening!).

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think that would have to be the little boy called Luka, to wake up to find his parents gone and everyone else around too. He is so young and heavily reliant on his parents, only suddenly there aren't there and neither is anyone else. It makes his journey a very interesting one to follow, and its written so well that it's like your experiencing it all with him. You can't help but feel for the young boy!

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No I don't think I have but they are all great, so if I saw a book narrated by any of them I'd definitely listen to the book if the story attracted me.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes I did, it's very easy to react to every character and what they are going through. It's been written so well so it's hard not to feel how they are whether that's scared or vulnerable.

Any additional comments?

Thank you for providing this free episode in the series, without this I never would of found this amazing series. Before coming across this free episode I'd not heard of the book, author s or anything. It was free so I downloaded it to try as I had nothing to loose, I can't express how glad I am as this series has become one of my favourites...I'm completely hooked!

Ensured I HAD to Hear the Rest of The Story

If you could sum up FREE Yesterday's Gone: Season 1 - Episode 1 in three words, what would they be?

Intriguing, fantastical storytelling.

What did you like best about this story?

The array of characters. Though it can be initially a bit disorientating jumping from one character to next without knowing who they are (or what happens to them at the end of a scenario) you quickly get used to it.

This form of character story jumping then keeps the story intriguing and mixes up the pace enough to keep you from pressing the stop button.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?

All the narrators are top notch. I'm a big fan of R.C. Bray but I have to say that the narrator performing the voice of the serial killer, though initially creating a "wtf" reaction, is truly excellent - with the help of excellent writing the performer creates a truly believable 3-dimensional character.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end pi**ed me off cuz I now need to know what happens next!

Any additional comments?

I think this type of marketing is very clever - giving away part of a book or a prequel charter for free. I first encountered it with the Mountain Man saga which lead me to buy all the books in the series while simultaneously introducing me to an entirely new genre. This will probably have the same effect as I am definitely going to get the first series in its entirety.

Worth a listen

Interesting start to a story - quite easy listening. I got a little lost with numerous characters. Did prompt my curiosity though -

Lost/Stephen King!

I loved this story. It reminds me of a classic King novel, like the beginning of The Stand, introducing all the characters and bringing them together.
