About this listen
A new stand-alone novel from Jodi Ellen Malpas, the best-selling author of the This Man and One Night trilogies.
Annie has never experienced the 'spark' with a guy - the kind of instant chemistry that steals your breath and blindsides you completely. Until a night out with friends brings her face to face with the wickedly sexy and mysterious Jack. It's not just a spark that ignites between them. It's an explosion. Jack promises to consume Annie, and he fully delivers on that promise.
Overwhelmed by the intensity of their one night together, Annie slips out of their hotel room. She is certain that a man who's had such a powerful impact on her and who could bend her to his will so easily must be dangerous. But she's already in too deep. And Jack isn't only dangerous. He is forbidden.

If I had to find fault all I can say is there are so many American terms starting to show up in a story about a London girl that's set in London. but that's just me being picky, however the English accent with American pronunciations did get a little annoying as the story went on.
10 out of 10 for the story
9 out of 10 for the naration
loved it

The one thing that has started to irk me with JEM books… This Man series, One Night Series and this book, she seems to follow some kind of template where there is the shock of an “unexpected” pregnancy, she even describes the discovery of/reaction to the pregnancies in more or less the same way. I'd expect a little more originality in her writing by now, instead of rehashing the same situations and scenarios in her books.
The narration is good, great performance.
Good story, but has the usual JEM predictability.

What made the experience of listening to The Forbidden the most enjoyable?
The story is amazing. I'm not a fan of infidelity in my love stories, so I'm super glad I gave this story a chance. It's a beautiful story, and one I can relate to on so many levels. What was one of the most memorable moments of The Forbidden?
All of it, the story is amazingWho might you have cast as narrator instead of Julie Garthan?
All my favourite narrators are American (Andi Arndt, Elena Wolfe, Ava Eriksson) but I don't know any good English narrators to suggest. I am English, and it kind of bugs me that all English narrators seems to go over the top with the "Englishness". Julie Garthan was okay as a narrator, expressive, but unfortunately she has that same level of expression all the way through. Her tone barely changes whether drinking with friends, during the sexy scenes or during the heartbreaking scenes. Her male "voice" also isn't much of a voice at all, just the same as hers. I must stress, Julie is not annoying to listen to, but I just feel that a story with so many emotions and ups and downs, needed someone who could convey those extremes more effectively. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Story yes, narrator no.Any additional comments?
I am so glad I read the book before I listened to the audio book. I have a feeling if I had listened first, the book would not have had the same impact on me.Story is amazing....narration not so much
