About this listen

A new stand-alone novel from Jodi Ellen Malpas, the best-selling author of the This Man and One Night trilogies.

Annie has never experienced the 'spark' with a guy - the kind of instant chemistry that steals your breath and blindsides you completely. Until a night out with friends brings her face to face with the wickedly sexy and mysterious Jack. It's not just a spark that ignites between them. It's an explosion. Jack promises to consume Annie, and he fully delivers on that promise.

Overwhelmed by the intensity of their one night together, Annie slips out of their hotel room. She is certain that a man who's had such a powerful impact on her and who could bend her to his will so easily must be dangerous. But she's already in too deep. And Jack isn't only dangerous. He is forbidden.

Fantastic story to read and I couldn't put it down. The house work went out of the window.
I was hooked... Congratulations on this wonderful story.

Another well written book from JEM. A subject that was sensitively broached and once again I fell in love with the main characters. I'm so glad you wrote it. Many thanks

Amazing book about a difficult situation.

Just the right amount of romance, just the right amount of lusty raunchyness without it being to often or too much detail. I really enjoyed this book, the way it was written and the voice narrating it.

Bloody loved it

I have literally not stopped listening to this audiobook - just wow! My first book by this author and I’m genuinely blown away, I loved every moment of it. I love the characters, the storyline, the shocks and surprises along the way. I didn’t want it to end!! Will definitely buy more from Jodi Ellen Malpas. The narration was great too, I’m sometimes wary about women having to perform as a man but Julie did a great job!

yet another fantastic read from jodi. for those who complain about the adulterous storyline I'd just say not to be put off by this. the author has handled this subject with great sensitivity, and if I avoided every work of fiction with a topic I found offensive then my kindle library wouldn't be half as full as it is.
If I had to find fault all I can say is there are so many American terms starting to show up in a story about a London girl that's set in London. but that's just me being picky, however the English accent with American pronunciations did get a little annoying as the story went on.
10 out of 10 for the story
9 out of 10 for the naration

I enjoyed listening to this book. It was fairly well written and approached the subject of adultery well.

The one thing that has started to irk me with JEM books… This Man series, One Night Series and this book, she seems to follow some kind of template where there is the shock of an “unexpected” pregnancy, she even describes the discovery of/reaction to the pregnancies in more or less the same way. I'd expect a little more originality in her writing by now, instead of rehashing the same situations and scenarios in her books.

The narration is good, great performance.

Good story, but has the usual JEM predictability.

Another great book from Jodi, she done it again! A must read if your a fan and if you have not read her books before this is a complete story and will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions, the great thing about this story it could happen to any of us and demonstrates the power of how strong attractions can lead you where you may not have considered was the right thing to do!

Rollercoaster

I did enjoy this story, but felt the ending was 2 chapters too many. It also became far too cheesy. So not quite my taste.

Good but...

What made the experience of listening to The Forbidden the most enjoyable?

The story is amazing. I'm not a fan of infidelity in my love stories, so I'm super glad I gave this story a chance. It's a beautiful story, and one I can relate to on so many levels.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Forbidden?

All of it, the story is amazing

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Julie Garthan?

All my favourite narrators are American (Andi Arndt, Elena Wolfe, Ava Eriksson) but I don't know any good English narrators to suggest. I am English, and it kind of bugs me that all English narrators seems to go over the top with the "Englishness". Julie Garthan was okay as a narrator, expressive, but unfortunately she has that same level of expression all the way through. Her tone barely changes whether drinking with friends, during the sexy scenes or during the heartbreaking scenes. Her male "voice" also isn't much of a voice at all, just the same as hers. I must stress, Julie is not annoying to listen to, but I just feel that a story with so many emotions and ups and downs, needed someone who could convey those extremes more effectively.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Story yes, narrator no.

Any additional comments?

I am so glad I read the book before I listened to the audio book. I have a feeling if I had listened first, the book would not have had the same impact on me.

Story is amazing....narration not so much
