The promise of love

The last thing she expects is to be torn between two very different men – a face from the past, whose loss she’s always mourned, and a roguish poet, who scorns convention.

A taste of freedom

But a lady’s reputation is fragile and with jealous eyes on Eliza’s fortune, it will only take one whisper of gossip for her to lose it all…

Escape with the most delightful, historical romance of the year from the Sunday Times bestselling author Sophie Irwin!

Great story, awful narration. I loved the first book but Imogen Church ruined this one. The female characters sounded either hysterical or idiotic, not true to themselves. I hate when narrators 'perform' the book instead of just reading it. Hope Tomlinson does the next one.

Bring back Eleanor Tomlinson!

I loved A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting - yes, it was cliché- but that was the fun. I must have listened to it a half dozen times at least since it's release, and I was eagerly awaiting the next book from Sophie Irwin.

Yes it was difficult to adjust to a new narrator at first but I soon adjusted.

If I thought the first book was cliché, the sequel A Lady's Guide to Scandal kept me guessing until the last what was going to happen next with some very unexpected twists that were at times gut wrenching and I had to sneak a chapter here and there between work meetings because I absolutely could not get on with my day without knowing how Eliza's story would resolve.

How long until the next one?

More please!!

I could not get on with the narration, it reminded me of a teacher reading to a young class. Speeding it up helped but I think I would have enjoyed reading the book much more. I enjoyed the fact that I couldn't predict the ending.

Good story but..

I was a bit doubtful of the story at first but it surprised me pleasantly. The structure and vibe is definitely Jane Austen however a lot more modern take on it. But if she was from this Age I feel like the stories would be a lot similar to this author's books.

Great story

I love the story; sassy, romantic, emotional and well written. The narration is perfect and I can’t wait for more titles in this series

Having loved the first novel, it was hard to imagine this one being even better, but it has exceeded all my expectations! I loved all the little plot twists and Eliza'a journey from a timid young window to a fierce lioness.

I have to admit, I missed Elinor Tomlinson who narrated the first book so perfectly. I found the new narrator a little over the top and shouty at times, delivering some lines far more aggressively than they were intended, but it's still worth a listen if you prefer audiobooks to physical books.

Delightfully scrumptious

The story is funny, delightful and witty. The narrator was just a little too over the top.

Amusing romp

I really enjoyed the first book but couldn’t get into this one as much. Part of it was the plot (which was not as compelling and a bit obvious) but I also found the narrator very annoying which made this hard to get through. Good for a fun summer read.

Could’ve done with more scandals.

I actually ended up sending this title back as the narration was really not to my taste. I enjoyed the story I did hear, and will probably get the book in paper form so I can finish it as I loved the first one, but I found myself actively choosing not to listen as the style got on my nerves. I hope if there’s a third book a new narrator is chosen!

Narration very irritating

This must have been a good story for me to have tolerated the very poor reading of Imogen Church. People just don’t talk in that way. Margaret in particular who was a bright and witty character was turned into a squawking witch. The male characters were better but overplayed. I kept going over what was being read and imagining it being read in a more normal way. The story was however really good so if you can turn an undiscerning ear to the narration I would recommend it.

Excellent story but distracting narration
