About this listen

The most accomplished mountain runner of all time contemplates his record-breaking climb of Mount Everest in this profound and free-flowing memoir—an intellectual and spiritual journey that moves from the earth’s highest peak to the soul’s deepest reaches.

What drives a person to the edge of one of the most difficult and revered mountains in the world? How much is one willing to sacrifice and suffer to pursue an authentic and bold life? The most accomplished mountain runner of all time, Kilian Jornet ponders these questions as he contemplates his record-breaking climb of Mount Everest, exploring the mountain’s changing nature over four seasons and his own existence.

As he recounts a life spent studying, tending, and ascending the greatest peaks on earth, Jornet ruminates on what he has found in nature—simplicity, freedom, and spiritual joy—and offers a poetic yet clearheaded assessment of his relationship to the mountain . . . at times his opponent, at others, his greatest muse.

In this sweeping, soulful journey—the flip side of stories like Into Thin Air—Jornet illuminates with beauty and brilliance what it means to be an athlete, a competitor, and a human facing the greatest life challenges—for him, the mountain he yearns to climb and honour.

the book is great, interesting insight into the athlete and his life in sport. the narrator was good also but I found it quite irritating that he didn't bother to learn how to pronounce Jornet! given this is a biography, it seems fairly crucial that at the very least you pronounce the author and protagonist's name correctly!

Good book but

This was not as entertaining as I hoped. Kilian Jornet is a complete psycho, there is no question about that. And some of the stories were amazing and quite inspiring. But he makes it clear in every possible way that he doesn’t really care about people (in general) and this is reflected in the monotone style of the book. I wonder why he even wrote it since he couldn’t care less about what people think. Just to show off his exploits I suppose. The narration was not bad but what can you expect with such dry writing? Jornet might be one of the best mountain runners but he certainly is not one of the best writers.

Complete psycho! But in a good way (I guess?)

Why did you not use a narrator with a Spanish accent? It just doesn't connect as being about Kilian when hearing an American voice unfortunately, but the content is good.

Should have used a Spanish narrator

I found the story a little flat despite all of the amazing achievements . Maybe that’s just my personal preference - I didn’t feel satisfied by the story .

Didn’t do it for me
