About this listen
Baking. It can get a guy killed.
When a retired detective and a former police dog set out on a culinary tour of the British Isles, they dream of tasty treats and delicious bakes...
...what they find is mystery, mayhem, and murder.
Albert’s investigator’s brain sees things ordinary people might not, and his dog, Rex Harrison, cannot understand why the humans are struggling to solve each mystery. He can already smell the answer - it’s right before their noses.
Together they lend their skills to help the people they meet, but unwittingly, they’ve discovered a master criminal at work, and what started out as a bit of fun is getting deadlier with each new place they visit.
If you are a fan of gentle, funny mystery books, this series is sure to please. Grab a boxed set now and save a packet on buying them individually.
This series of books contain no cussing and graphic descriptions of violence or bedroom activities.

A lovely bookset!
This set kept me happily listening for 2 weeks! I love the detective duo of Albert Smith and his canine sleuth, Rex. Together they explore England enjoying the delicious food of the various places they visit and stumble upon crimes that need solving in the process. Made me so hungry whilst listening that I'd have to have a snack with me every single time! Each story has a bit of humour, drama and sleuthing galore! Loved every minute of it! The narrator brings each character to life. His rendering of Rex and his thoughts was wonderful!

Thoroughly enjoyed Albert and Rex’s culinary capers
This was such a fun detective book. Adore the role of Rex Harrison the dog and seeing the various situations from his point of view as well as Albert’s.
A lovely bit of light escapism in these dark times. Plus I got to learn a bit about traditional British food at the same time!

loved them
I was hooked in the first 10 mins when Albert makes Rex Harrison wear a hairnet in the cookery class (you will understand when you listen to them) The books are daft and entertaining. I love Rex's take on life & his comments have literally made me LOL. 5 books for 1 credit make them a real bargain.

Great fun and some cracking yarns
What a joy these books are. So many laugh out loud moments but also genuinely clever plots and the right balance of jeopardy. I have already bought the other available titles. The performance was mostly good, but some of the pronunciations were a little off... hyperbole as 'hyperbowl' for example! Having said that I love the voice he gives to Rex and the mispronunciations were very few so didn't spoil my enjoyment. I think in one of the books there was a mix up re: which characters were speaking and I'm not sure if that was author or performance error, but again, nothing to spoil my enjoyment. I would highly recommend you give them a go.

Great book
This book was easy to listen too. What made it really good was the introduction of ‘Rex’. I didn’t take to the narrator rat first but after a couple of chapters I started to warm to him. One minute there’s been a body found then soon after Rex gets up to mischief! I actually laughed out loud at some of his antics. I can’t wait to start Cumberland Sausage trip. I will certainly be listening to more of books by Steve Higgs.

Well Worth A Listen
I thoroughly enjoyed these books. I'd steered clear of purchasing them for a long time thinking that the characters and storylines were not up my street. However, I'm a huge fan of the Blue Moon investigation stories so I thought I would give it a try and I am so glad I did. I just loved Albert and Rex's culinary journey around the country and there sleuthing side line. Every story was a joy to listen too and very informative as I now know what a Bedfordshire Clanger is and the difference between a Bakewell Pudding and Bakewell Tart.
I liked book 4 the best primarily because the interaction between Rex and the sausage dog which was absolutely hilarious ! ! !
I will definitely be purchasing the remaining books in the series.
