About this listen

All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels.

All Systems Red tackles questions of the ethics of sentient robotics. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.

But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn't a primary concern.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied 'droid - a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as "Murderbot."

Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is. But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

Short

Good story, but it’s like half of a book or less. Not really value for money.

Excellent!

Wow!
This was new and exiting. No first law of robotics here.
Can’t wait to listen to the next one. Hope it has the same performer.

One of my absolute favourites!

This little ditty is just so magnificent with its honesty and heart. It’s all so readily apparent and only grows on multiple passes. I adore this book.

Action!

An ok adventure. Good action scenes and world building. Too many characters at the start made it a bit hard to follow. Not too long. Poorly reviewed by my book club.

Brief but Engaging Read

This book made for a good listen, capturing interest with its good narrative and engaging content. The author has done a commendable job in creating a story that is both intriguing and easy to follow. However, the book does feel a bit short, Despite its brevity, it offers a satisfying and worthwhile reading experience.

Great find

Great book just a shame it was so short! If the length of the book is an issue personally, I'd find something else

Simply delightful

Started listening to it because i was out of credits. I ended up enjoying it more than some other sci fi books I actually purchased.

Great and original story

It is funny, original, and read with real emotion and personality. Definitely an author and voice actor I will return to.

Enjoyable enough

The story had an interesting concept and used it to tell a simple robot action tale. It didn’t probe too much into any thought-provoking; just got on with some sci-fi. Easy read, probably worth it if you like space stories.
