I considered the other reviews about this book...and decided to ignore them. Angus King is a great performer and to write about terrible 'accents' just means you missed out on the great humour of the storyline. If you like Chris Brookmyre's work...you'll love this.

I first read this several years ago, when my mum was alive and interested on "woo", it was funny then. its still funny and interesting and all I'll say is that although the practices described in the story may be true for some, thats not how all mediums work and the challenge today is sorting out those more gifted from the others.

I like Christopher Brookmyre and his cynical outlook on the world. I like the character of Jack Parlabane, and his beyond cynical outlook etc ... And I fear, loathe and detest the whole idea of psychics, and the damage said 'psychics' can do. So "Attack of the... Rubber Ducks" was right up my street. And for the most part, I loved it... Only spoiled by Angus King's truly dreadful American accents (I say 'accents' plural but there really was only one - a cod-southern states drawl reminiscent of Blanche Dubois in "Street Car Named Desire". Only less convincing and much more annoying.

Still, it clearly wasn't annoying enough to make me give up listening to or finishing the book...

really clever story but some of the narrative in support of the believers is a bit long and unimaginative. Normally rewarded with a laugh bit often leaving you debating continuing listening

Jack at his best, quick witted cynical self. An interesting subject matter with some great explanations and great carryover of old characters (got to love spammy)

Classic Brookmyre

I read this first in paper form, and have enjoyed it now again, narrated by the excellent Angus King. It is one of my favourite Brookmyre stories. A real treat.

Worth persevering with this clever, twisting tale. I had to force myself to to carry on for the first few chapters not sure where the plot was going. By the end I was hooked! The author certainly likes to tease his readers.
