Summary

Emma decided to skip the gym and went home early. It was the last easy decision she made because she found her roommate being raped by her boyfriend. She had two choices: Call the cops and be killed by his family's mafia connections or kill him first and hope to survive.

There was no choice to her. She killed the bastard first and went to the one person who could protect her: Carter Reed. He's a weapon for the rivaling mafia family, but he's also Emma's secret. Not only was he best friends with her brother, but she's the reason he became that weapon in the first place.

Plot was good

I saw the intro on TikTok and the plot sounded interesting. To be fair it was a good plot the only thing I disliked was how Emma was written. She seemed liked she needed a lot of help to understand the obvious (Carter had to spoon feed her info. before she understood anything) and she relied on him way too much. I would have preferred a smarter, stronger female lead. But this is just my opinion.

Good story

Emma is a bit annoying, but other than that the book was really interesting. Good story line and loved Carter.

Six stars plus ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Who was your favorite character and why?

Loved Carter. Hot hot hot

What about Lucy Rivers’s performance did you like?

Thought she was fantastic. Loved her voice.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

He'd go to war for her ❤️

Any additional comments?

Tijan is one of my favourite authors, add that to the fact that Carter Reed is a mega hot mob boss with a heart, then there is no wonder that I love this book so much ❤️ Love Emma's character, she is so strong willed, all the way through the book you're rooting for her and willing Carter to let her in. Sexual tension is high and I loved the interaction between Carter and Emma. Couldn't get enough of this book, loved the storyline and loved the characters Carter especially). Thank you Tijan ❤️

A bit over dramatic for my liking

As a preliminary point I’m not a huge fan of mafia romances. I find them implausible and there are usually huge holes. I often find myself thinking “he would just have killed her! Why didn’t he just kill her?” Or some such. I decided to listen to this one because it was by Tijan, who I generally love.

Also, maybe some spoilers ahead.

It was an ok listen, and I confess I didn’t find the holes I usually find in mafia romances. The pay off as to why he got the two families to agree, and his buy-out were plausible. The ins and outs of what happened after Emma killed Jeremy (seriously? Jeremy? A mobster’s son is called Jeremy? Nah, Jeremy is a posh English twit who eats paste and works in finance after having gone to Elton! - but anyway ….), worked. I did however find it somewhat overly dramatic. Emma particularly was irritating, constantly spacing out and repeating herself, the inner monologues, literally hammering home the point, and what had happened etc - yes we got it, Ben literally sold her out, we got it the first time the money was mentioned. In addition there wasn’t enough of Carter imho, it really needed to be much more dual pov, as he was almost a bit part player, just flitting in and out as Emma did her amateur dramatics about town. I got that he’s a killer, but other than that I didn’t really get the feels for him like I usually do with Titan’s anti-heroes. He just seemed a bit flat.

The performance from Lucy was OK but she also seemed to be over dramatic adding further to it.

I’ll probably listen to the second one - but not for a while. I’m not sufficiently invested in the characters to care that much about what happens next.

Good book

A little graphic but the storyline was good. The narration was excellent. Good characters and supporting cast. Enjoyed getting to know all the players

who doesn't love a bad guy with a heart if gold for his woman

I know he's in the Mafia and kills people but he's so cute the way he's always loved her and looked out for her so much so he new she'd lost weight and the way he would drop everything and give up everything for emma. He's a teddy bear disguised as macho muscled mafia man. I loved it and going straight into book two.

Yum! Carter reed

Would you consider the audio edition of Carter Reed to be better than the print version?

The audio edition is just as good as the printed version

What was one of the most memorable moments of Carter Reed?

The most memorable moment for me was when he admits that he loves her,but then again I'm a softie when it comes to romance, and when he tells her that he has always protected her in her life and explains how, great action with romance.

Have you listened to any of Lucy Rivers’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to any other performances from Lucy rivers,so I carnt compare this audio book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When carter explains to Emma how he got involved with the mafia and why he done it,all started with her brother.that he never really left her alone she had been watched since her brothers death, that part really moved me.

Any additional comments?

A great action packed story with twist and turns and also romance,a bit of everything.i loved the story and how it came altogether, and have read recently that Tijan is writing up a sequal.carnt wait for that one.
Highly recommend this audio book.
