Summary
From the New York Times best-selling author of the Rock Chick series comes a story of love, murder, and second chances....
When small-town Nebraska sheriff Hixon Drake meets Greta Dare, the connection couldn't be stronger, but the timing couldn't be worse.
Dealing with the fallout of a divorce he never wanted and setting up a new home for his kids, Hix becomes that guy, that one he never wanted to be, and puts a stop to things before they can even start. Protecting his kids and himself is his only priority.
Greta, on the other hand, has found the place for her and the brother she adores that's perfect for them - a sleepy little town in Nebraska. She's learned from life that there are no hopes and dreams. The only thing to look forward to is peace. And that's what she works hard to build for herself and her brother. Right up until Hix walks into her life.
Hix can't fight the pull and stay away from Greta for long. And Greta's finding it hard not to hope for something more with all the promise that is Hix.
But when the first murder that's happened in over five decades rocks his small, sleepy county, Hix has got to learn to trust again, convince Greta to take a shot with him, and at the same time catch a killer.
In other words, things are definitely...Complicated.

Loved it
Classic Kristen Ashley, as usual well written characters, amazing H, a bit of a jerk at first, but understandable. The h is amazing and so strong, my eyes watered for her and her brother often during the story. The side characters are lovable and that is one trademark I love from KA. The plot is really good and pages turning, with everything being resolved at the end. Loved it was mainly the H voice throughout the book, reminded me of Golden Trail, and Lance Greenfield performance was great. I just spent nearly 19hr in KA heaven.

Some complications are good
I'm a big Kristen Ashley fan and I love audios so this was win win for me.
His and Greta's relationship was hot from the get go, this book has everything that makes a KA book great, Raw hot and with a lot of heart.

Brilliant story
A great story, it is a lovely and well written romance. Loved the characters developments through out the book. It isn’t a book based on the murder it’s based on the couple and their families the murder is just part of the story so if your just looking for a murder book this probably isn’t what your looking for but the story is great so if that isn’t what your looking for it’s a brilliant story defo worth a credit well done K.A

Fabulous!
Wow! When Kristen Ashley is good, she is really, really good. Some of her later books have left me feeling a bit cheated, but with this one she is right back on top form.
This book has a fabulous H and h, a very rocky road to romance, amazing side characters, and an absorbing murder mystery. The sex is super hot but thankfully does not dominate the pace of the book. I love that KA features older characters in her book, and how the history of each of them shapes them and the decisions they make. They make mistakes, screw things up in the heat of the moment and then (like we all do) cool down, analyse the situation and realise they have messed up, so then set about to rectify things. I love how we, as readers, realise that this couple are destined to be together by their thoughts, their actions and reactions, even if the couple themselves are still denying the possibility. Life and love in a good KA book is messy, unpredictable, unfair, heartbreaking, exhilarating, funny, heart warming and life affirming; but never, ever, boring. I listened obsessively to get to the end, and then felt regret that the story had ended. All this illustrates just how truly talented KA is as a writer. Special mention must go to the secondary characters featured in this story as KA manages to make us care about so much more than just the central couple in this book.
Dual narration was fabulous. Unusually (but very successfully) the POV was mainly that of the H which enabled the reader to understand him even when he was behaving like a jerk toward the h (which was a lot in the first half of the book!) If you have not listened to KA on audio before, start with this book. It's very long, but the many story lines surrounding the couple never dragged, and I felt real regret when I got to the end.

Loved it! Love most of Kristen Ashley's books, this was no exception, maybe she'll create a series from this.
