About this listen

Libby Day was just seven years old when her older brother massacred her family while she hid in a cupboard. Her evidence helped put him away. Ever since then she has been drifting, surviving for over 20 years on the proceeds of the 'Libby Day fund'. But now the money is running out and Libby is desperate.

When she is offered $500 to do a guest appearance, she feels she has to accept. But this is no ordinary gathering. The Kill Club is a group of true-crime obsessives who share information on notorious murders, and they think her brother Ben is innocent. Ben was a social misfit, ground down by the small-town farming community in which he lived. But he did have a girlfriend - a brooding heavy metal fan called Diondra. Through her, Ben became involved with drugs and the dark arts. When the town suddenly turned against him, his thoughts turned black. But was he capable of murder?

Libby must delve into her family's past to uncover the truth - no matter how painful.

I loved every minute of this compelling and addictive story. Believable characters and refreshingly surprising outcome.

Compelling.

Good story, great performance(that made it) and a good pace. Initially, about 10 minutes in, I was going to give this book a miss but stuck with it and was happy that I did-Recommended...

Very good

I really enjoyed this story, and I listened to it in 3 days due to the compelling storyline.

The narrator is great, and I would listen to future books just because of her style of reading.

The story is really good too, i thought i had guessed the end, but I was very surprised by the outcome.

Worthwhile listen that I highly recommend

Most addictive audio book yet

Loved this book! I am a psychological thriller addict and this ticked all my boxes! Flynn describes scenes and the characters feelings so very well. I am a reader who appreciates depth in description and this doesn’t fall short. The story is so compelling I just had to know what happened and how it all ended. Just take my advice don’t listen to the chapter about the cows late at night or when you are about to eat- I had to hold the earbuds away from my ears for bits of that!
Also - don’t watch the film, either before or after reading, the film comes up short and completely skims any feeling from the characters!

Addictive listening and very well written

I was expecting the book to be dark but I was uncomfortable during most of it. I even had to skip a few parts. Very graphic.

Even in this decade of crime ‘obsession’ and us being exposed to so much, I struggled to get through this. Not because it is bad but because it is very heavy and intense.

Great performance

Disturbing and Graphic

I'm afraid I was disappointed with this book and was actually glad when it was over. I was disappointed in the ending and actually "whodunnit". Could have done with more explanation at the end. Second book of Flynn I have read after a recommendation and sadly will probably be the last. Narrator did a great job though!

A bit long winded

This was an unusual story. The main character certainly had her flaws, and at times it was difficult to like her. The story dealt with some difficult to deal with subjects and situations. It was well written, well read, very dark and certainly not predictable.

Very dark indeed

loved it
cleverly written with a great plot
Another fab novel from Gillian Flynn, with a emotive narrator.

kept me guessing

This a great story and I'm really glad I read it before watching the movie. It's pace is good, although a little laboured at times. The mystery of the book is a classic who-dunnit and it leaves you guessing right the to the end, although in reality the ending is slightly improbable. It's well read and delivered. The plot takes many twists and turns and it really had me gripped to the end.

Good, sinister story

it's enough to make you want to finish . But not the greatest lot better reads I feel and certainly not the authors best work
