About this listen

Every angel deserves their wings… When flight attendant Angelica Whitaker is reported missing after a night out at one of the most popular nightclubs in Southend, the case is handed to DS Tomek Bowen for the first time in his career.

As soon as the investigation begins, the finger is pointed at the man she danced with at the club, but when her body is later found in a church, posed like an angel, the same fingers begin to point towards a calculated, composed, and sadistic killer.

But as the investigation progresses, and as Tomek delves deeper into the victim’s life, it becomes clear that there is no shortage of suspects, and everyone’s got their secrets — some more than others…Death’s Angel is the unforgettable sixth book in the DS Tomek Bowen Essex Murder Mystery series by Jack Probyn. Filled with twists, peppered with romance and flavoured with ounces of dark humour, this fast-paced British detective novel will keep you guessing until the very end when the final shocking twist is revealed. Fans of JD Kirk, Jack Gatland and JM Dalgliesh can't put this book down. Tap the buy button to listen today!

THE SETTING

Southend-on-Sea, a coastal town in Essex, hides a darker side beneath its cheerful seaside veneer. The world's longest pleasure pier stretches like a skeletal hand into murky waters, where mist clings to centuries of forgotten secrets. The surrounding area, with its quiet, winding roads through bleak marshes and flat farmland, holds a history of disappearances and whispered rumours. From the cobbled beaches to the unforgiving marshlands, murder and mystery lurk deep within the South Essex identity, and come and go as frequently as the tide.

Just loved it. I started reading in an afternoon and had to keep going to finish as I wanted to find out who did it. There were so many options, I did guess, right though.
The deep story re Tomeks brother continues and wondering if there is going to be more to Abigail story.
He has captured teenage issues perfectly. How has he done that? It could have been my daughter's emotions.
The angst re parents and daughters was also well down I do worry about drink spiking etc.

The narration of this series just works - the narrator gives the right vibe for the main characters and I just can escape into it. I had to just keep listening

What a great series and really well narrated

Book 6 of the series and Scott Fleming is doing an excellent job of narrating. Characters have distinctive voices and the words are clear. It needs speeding up for me, but most books do!

We get a few more insights into Tomek's home life and his background whilst things are a little bumpy at work. The plot takes a few twists and I'd not sorted out who the killer was, by the end.

excellent narration
