Summary
Meet Jay.
Small-time dealer.
Accidental jihadist.
The one man who can save us all?
Javid - call him Jay - is a dope dealer living in West London. He goes to mosque on Friday, and he's just bought his pride and joy - a BMW. He lives with his mum, and life seems sweet.
But his world is about to turn upside-down. Because MI5 have been watching him, and they think he's just the man they need for a delicate mission.
One thing's for sure: now he's a long way east of Hounslow, Jay's life will never be the same again.
With the edgy humour of Four Lions and the pulse-racing tension of Nomad, East of Hounslow is the first in a series of thrillers starring Jay Qasim.

East of Everywhere
Yes, this book is from an unfamiliar author with an unfamiliar concept, however, stay with the unfolding story. I found myself realising that this was not just East of Hounslow, but East of Everywhere.
Slowly I appreciated that I needed to take stock of my preconceptions. This was done by the clever placement of Jay in a series of his situations, using his eyes and ears to make me think.
The author has done well to earn a place on the book awards shortlist and I’m sure we’ll hear more good things from his pen / keyboard regularly in the future.

Interesting lead character and kept us gripped
We enjoyed this a lot. Loved the performance - the narrator did a great job with all of the characters and really brought them alive. An interesting and unusual story with an engaging lead character, although we did find the ending a bit sad.

On point and relevant..just a little polish needed
Had to persevere to get into it, but once engaged its gripping enough.
The characters could have done with a little more filling out.
The narrators pitch got occasionally whiny and high, but overall was well suited.

What a unexpected delight.
I initially found the narration a little difficult, but soon got used to it and found it added to the story. Our 'hero' was a completely believable character, living just outside the law. The story raised many questions about society, but not in a preachy way. I was completely caught up in his adventures and began to see how young people could be swayed by powerful rhetoric. The ending took me completely by surprise. I can't recommend this book enough, the best I've listened to in a while.

Great book
I really enjoyed this book. Some light hearted moments on what is a very serious subject.
Engaging narrator and good characters.

Jay's fun. The story's just okay, but I enjoyed it
I loved the first phase of this book, where we were meeting Jay as a character and figuring out how he fit into London. Waleed Akhtar read the character perfectly in this section, and you could hear Jay's blend of nerves and swagger in his voice.
The rest of the story didn't click so well with me, but it was still a fun enough listen.
