Summary

This program features a new introduction read by Daniel Goleman and a bonus dialogue between the author and Jon Kabat-Zinn.

It is the tenth anniversary since the first publication of Daniel Goleman's groundbreaking bestseller, Emotional Intelligence, which maps the territory where IQ meets EQ, where we apply what we know to how we live. Spending over a year on the New York Times bestseller list, Emotional Intelligence provided the evidence for what many successful people already knew: being smart isn't just a matter of mastering facts; it's a matter of mastering your own emotions and understanding the emotions of the people around you.

Really informative

Really informative and educational. I especially enjoyed the links to neuroscience as I'm a sensory integration practitioner.

Outstanding insights into human behaviour

This book is truly outstanding and has completely explained my own "issues". I've listened to many books about the mind, the brain, human psychology, but the meticulous and clearly explained insights, reasons why people behave the way they do, the powerful influences of our upbringing from birth onwards, nurture and nature. I would suggest this is a must-listen/read for every politician throughout the world who truly wants to create a better society. The lack of emotional intelligence teachings in school is shocking, the true life skills. Those of you fortunate enough to have been born into a family of truly loving, attentive, emotionally intelligent parents will hopefully be "normal", balanced and successful individuals. For the rest of us, we can perhaps at least learn the manifold and complex reasons why we have turned out the way we have. And hopefully we can acknowledge the reasons and seek help to resolve. Undoubtedly the best book which extensively covers emotions linked to behaviours and their outcomes. The world in general should pay attention and build lessons for children of an early age onwards, I truly believe we would have a better world with EI being taught in schools. It is encouraging that there are people interested and caring enough to research the behaviours of humans from birth and through life to track their progress, place in the world and observe how issues have worsened to the detriment of the individual and those around them. Brilliant!

Read by a robot

For such interesting content - it is a shame the person reading it feels the need to emulate a robot. Occasionally there are sound glitches where it sounds like the tape is getting tangled - not sure what caused that but it happens a couple of times.

good, but who narrated this? Stephen Hawking?

very good explaination about our brains and our emotions and why we think the way we do. The narrative frequently uses good examples to explain what might be rather dry subject matter without losing us too much. Yes it is complex stuff but i think it gets to the heart of why we are the way we are (especially under stress) better than anything else I've read or heard.
One off point - the narrator sounds like a computer, and once you get that thought into your head all you can picture is Stephen Hawking's electronic voice machine bleeping out words with the same monotone noise '..see apendix A' is probably not best read out even though it might be printed in the book. And the music at the end of each chapter drowns out what is being said for about 2 minutes. I think if I was the author I'd get this re-done. Other than that, top quality content :)

insightful but long

interesting but heavy and long. took me good part of the year to get through this .

the topics are discussed really well with good use of examples. this makes up for the boring robot sounding narration that alot of these kind of academic books come with
