Finally honesty
I don’t know if I went out from this reading experience with a goal, but I do feel wiser in the knowledge that fat loss isn’t all black and white. I recommend this book to everyone who needs a little reality check, but maybe not if you’re looking for the answer to what you should do. The research is fascinating and mind opening.

Thorough, intelligent, and invaluable
An excellent book - so thorough, yet broken into manageable chunks. Acknowledges the reality of being a human being, and specifically one facing the challenges that come with living in the current age.
In particular I appreciate the value placed on mental health and quality of life.
Just the right amount of profanity and humour to keep it from getting stale.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone seeking to improve their health generally, and their relationship with food specifically.

Ben has an amazing to take complex information and explain it simply
A great book for anyone interested in fat loss, a balance, no BS approach, presenting the information for people to make their own choices. Ben is compassionate, funny and super knowledgeable.

Solid Gold from Ben Carpenter
Having followed Ben for a long time in social media, I thought that maybe a lot of the content here would be valuable but perhaps repeating the amazing stuff he’s already shared. But I was happily corrected almost instantly and cannot praise the effort that’s gone into the sheer detail in this book enough! Absolutely phenomenal, backed by research study upon research study whilst not being boring in the slightest. 10/10 for me.

lots of knowledge given in a digestible way (pun intended)
This book is packed full of research and studies presented in a non-biased way to help people come to their own conclusions about finding something right for them. Ben gives complex information in a way that is easy to process and understand and invites the listener/reader to consider that results of studies are sometimes given to us in a way that fits what someone else wants us to believe.

Detailed and pragmatic analysis of what works and what doesn’t when changing body composition!
Ben Carpenter is an incredibly knowledgeable health and fitness professional, with a genuine desire to support others and arm them with information to make choices that work for individuals - and no agenda to sell anything! There is a huge amount of information here and what I particularly liked is that Ben addresses the potential mental and psychological elements of dieting and weight loss, which is often overlooked and absolutely key!
I love the no BS approach and suggestion to prioritise overall physical (and mental) health, rather than a number on the scales, as an approach for many people. Equally, if you are a professional fitness model or bodybuilder, there is plenty of info to support you reaching your goals too.
He also calls out the rubbish touted in the diet and fitness industry which is refreshing.

Thorough, Informative and Accessible
This book is an extremely thorough review of a huge selection of scientific research related to dieting and fat loss. The information is presented in a balanced and easily accessible way so as to give the reader the power and confidence to choose the best strategies for them. Importantly, Ben gives a great deal of attention to being brutally honest about the risks of many common dieting strategies as well as the benefits. He speaks about safeguarding your mental and physical health during the pursuit of fat loss and even acknowledges that it may not be in the best interests of everyone reading the book. Overall, this is a great go to guide and I think it would be useful to go back to certain chapters as and when you need a reminder of your options when making lifestyle changes.

Cuts through to the essence of what matters for weight loss and why
Author is clear on what drives weight loss and sets out the ways, means and tools to achieve this. Surprised, pleasantly so, on the range and depth of the contents - it really covers all the bases. Some impressive examples of critical thinking which makes clear how and why weight loss is so tricky, or that we make it so!

excellent!
I thoroughly enjoyed this deep dive into the science behind body composition. it's refreshing to read (or listen in my case) to someone who isn't just jumping on the next 'big thing' and trying to sell me a miracle. It's nice to have someone simply spell out the way the body works, and then leave the decision making up to the reader. I have just finished it, but have already recommended it to several people. Also, follow Ben on social media, his content is brilliant!
