Summary
Loss and grief are universal, so coping with loss and managing your grief are crucial, life-long skills.
Life is characterized by gain and loss. While managing success and the emotions that come with gain presents its own unique problems, it is undoubtedly the pain and grief that are part and parcel of loss that affect us the most. The loss of a parent can be one of the most difficult grieving periods in anyone’s life. It will always hurt to lose a loved one, but there are ways to make it through.
Funerals and memorials provide the framework for honoring the life of a loved one, but when the dust settles and the mourners go home, the challenge of navigating your personal stages of grief can consume you.
At the age of 14, I lost my mother to cancer. That early experience of loss and my journey through grief were the first steps towards a lifetime of studying the process of grief in order to guide people through their own difficult journeys. The reason I’ve written this book, and the two that came before it, is simple. When I lost my mother, I received the help I needed to cope. Others are not so fortunate.
Grief of a Parent and Loss: Navigating and Coping with Grief After the Death of a Parent is a book that provides the necessary guidance for those struggling with the loss of a parent. In this audio, I hope that listeners will find comfort and, more importantly, the knowledge and resources to work through their stages of grief.
Grief of a Parent and Loss will teach you:
- The active steps you can take to support yourself as you grieve
- How to manage the anger that often comes with loss
- Why losing a parent hurts so much
- The lessons you can learn from the loss of a parent
Losing a parent won’t become easy after listening to a book. It never can be. But with the right guide, you can learn to manage the loss effectively and healthily. The lessons I learned, the help I received, and the care I gave myself were all key to processing my mother’s death.
