Summary

The knight charging to her rescue is the last person in the world she wants to see. Now she owes him, and he’s ready to collect.

When I spot Serena Lambert in danger, I don’t think twice—I jump in to help. It’s only after that I realize what I’ve done: I’ve played the knight in shining armor for the woman who probably hates my guts more than anyone else on the planet. Serena, the Blizzard’s PR director and the bane of my existence, looks just as shocked as I feel. Guess she thought she was finally rid of me. But bad pennies? We always turn up.

Being an NHL goalie has its perks, and trust me, I’ve taken full advantage of every single one. But when I end up becoming the league’s most infamous netminder, all those perks disappear, along with my spot on the roster. I want back in, and for that, I need Serena’s PR magic. Sure, she’s prickly as hell, but I can deal with that. She’s already had to clean up my tabloid messes before. Plus, let’s be honest, she’s not exactly hard on the eyes.

Serena’s laser-focused on her career, trying to cement her place on the team while dealing with a backstabbing coworker. Helping me is the last thing she needs, but there’s something undeniable between us, something that goes beyond my usual charm. The more time I spend with her, the more I find myself wanting to dig deeper, to figure out what makes her tick.

Yeah, we’re like oil and water. We might not mix, but maybe, just maybe, we can find a way to blend. And if we do, who knows? We might just score our happily-ever-after.

Amazing series all around

I have loved every book in the series that I've read/listened to but this one has to be my favorite. There were multiple plot points and everyone of them was interesting, well written and made this story dramatic in the best ways possible. From Jackson's parentage to the fraternization issue and the boss/assistant relationship...there was just so much going on and it was written so well. The flow of the story was fluid and I was totally engrossed in the plot. Serena and Wyatt were such great characters and had such strong opposites attract chemistry. I absolutely loved their interactions, in every facet of their relationship. It was a great book on so many levels.

As good as the story was, the audio elevated the experience for me. I am not a huge fan of an audiobook in third-person, but the duet style narration alleviated any issues I may have with it. These characters have such strong personalities and the narrators really brought them to life. Gideon Frost is one of my all time favorites and Addison Barnes voice was so lyrical and beautiful to listen to for long periods of time. Adding in a third narrator, Zachary Johnson, to voice the other male characters was a great addition and made it that much more pleasant to listen to.

Good listen

This one is far more than just a sports romance! Inside, you'll find family drama, found family, character growth, dislike to love, and more. This book will certainly have at least one thing you'll really enjoy.

At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about either character, Wyatt, especially, but as the story went on and they each started to show more growth, I grew to enjoy them. These two were a ton of fun once they hit it off, and they go through enough together that you definitely won't be bored.

I listened to this one on audiobook, and it was really well done. There were moments that were voiced so perfectly that it was like overhearing a conversation instead of being read something. Each narrator did a great job, and I look forward to hearing more from them.

This might just be my favorite book in the series so far.

I always love getting to read about a character who has been given a bad look in previous books and learn about them and see why they are the way they are, and let me tell you Wyatt’s story did not disappoint!
This book was so full of character growth and development. We all have a preconceived opinion about Wyatt, from Mac’s book, but we get to see why he was behaving badly, but we also get to see that he has already made some changes and this book is full of so much more.
I love the banter between Serena & Wyatt, Serena, like us, didn’t have a high opinion of Wyatt, but circumstances brought them together in a new context.
Serena got to see behind Wyatt’s bad boy behavior, and start to build on a tentative friendship.
This was full of intense energy, tumultuous pasts, loving family (& a side of toxic family members), toxicity at work, friendships, hockey, banter, hopefulness, spice and love.
It was filled with working hard, growth & maturity, self reflection, & change.
The duet narration with Addison Barnes, Gideon Frost & Zachary Johnson was incredible!

4.5 Stars!

Talk about a redemption arc!

Guarding the Crease is book 9 in the Playmakers series and follows Wyatt and Serena. We have met Wyatt before in other books within the series, and he wasn't the nicest. In fact, before I picked up this book, I had no idea that this book was about Wyatt and that he was getting a redemption arc (I don’t usually go in blind when reading some books, but as I have loved every book within this series so far, I was more confident in picking this up blind). And let me tell you, redemption arc it was!

This book starts off with Wyatt not doing the best in his career. Due to his antics both on and off the field, he becomes the NHL’s most infamous netminder, and he is dropped by his team. Now, he wants back in. Sadly, the one person who can help him salvage his image, and his livelihood has written him off. Serena is the team’s head of PR and Wyatt needs Serena’s PR skills to help him back on the team. However, Serena is focused on launching her career making herself indispensable to the team—as soon as she overcomes a conniving coworker. Helping Wyatt will only steal time and energy from her goal. But when he saves her from a difficult situation, she is in debt to him, and so she agrees to help him. As they get to know each other, both Serena and us the audience see that Wyatt is a lot more than we originally thought, and the amount of growth he goes through is just incredible.

I guess it comes as no surprise that I also loved this book just like I have the previous ones within the series. G.K. Brady just has a way of constructing characters and storylines that I really enjoy. The way she wrote Wyatt’s character growth was beyond amazing. He wasn't the best at first, but as time went on, we got to peel back all the layers and see beneath it all. We were able to see why he is the way he is. But he also FINALLY was able to see, acknowledge, and understand his not so nice ways and grow from it all. This book contained so much more drama and it was all so entertaining. There’s also so much banter between Serena & Wyatt. It was also filled with spice, love, friendships, growth & maturity, and self-reflection. Overall, an enjoyable read.

This duet-style narration was done by Gideon Frost, Addison Barnes, & Zachary Johnson and it was just fabulous! They were perfect together as well as separately. They really brought the characters and the story to life. They held my attention, and I was thoroughly entertained throughout!
