About this listen
‘I am a fat person and I love my body. I feel lucky to be able to say that – it has taken a lot of work and a lot of time. I want to tell you what I have learned and how I got here.’
In Happy Fat, comedian Sofie Hagen shares how she removed fatphobic influences from her daily life and found self-acceptance in a world where judgement and discrimination are rife.
From shame and sex to airplane seats, love and getting stuck in public toilets, Sofie provides practical tips for readers – drawing wisdom from other Fat Liberation champions along the way.
Part memoir, part social commentary, Happy Fat is a funny, angry and impassioned look at how taking up space in a culture that is desperate to reduce you can be radical, emboldening and life-changing.

Insightful, Funny & Empowering
This book is truly for everyone, it's educational and heartfelt and funny in all the right places. a great read that I finished in a day, and the narrator's voice is nice and easy to listen to. Little Ad Libs in the audio book set it aside from the original text. I would definitely recommend this read.

This upbeat book has made me re think my relationship to my body and to other people. It is well researched and explained in a lively and engaging way by Sophie herself.

I have never felt so seen
I love the extra bits that probably weren't in the physical book. Being a fan of Sophie as a Comedian already, this was so wonderful to hear. I have felt everything in this book before and thought it was just me. I was unaware that it was something every fat person felt. Before even finishing the book I had recommended this to so many friends and now that I'm actually finished, I am going to read/listen again....and I recommend you do to! xo

Eye-opening
As someone who is relatively well informed about the marginalisation if some groups (e.g. queer, black, disabled) I'm sad to say that I hadn't before realised the extent to which fat people suffer the same systemic problems and oppression and without being a legally protected group. This book really helped me question my own thoughts and prejudices and to empathise more with fat people. Highly recommended.

Hilarious, Heartwarming and Radical
I loved Sofie on guilty feminist, I loved her podcast(s), I loved her BBC special on Netflix and I loved this book. Arguably her best work and her narration is hilarious, her accent and voice are ADORABLE and her politics are spectacular.

A wonderful aid for my self love journey
I am not fat. But when I look in the mirror it’s what I see. As a consequence I have been punishing and starving my body on and off for years. This book was not made for me but it has been instrumental in addressing my fat phobia, ensuring I’m a better ally and allowing myself to love me a little better. On more than one occasion I stop and hug my body - smile and my bloated belly and caress my broad shoulders. My recovery is easier and hopefully long lasting due to this book. So please listen (or read). Only good will come from it!
