About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

From the worldwide Number One bestselling author behind the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning HBO series Big Little Lies and smash hit bestseller Apples Never Fall.

We’re all so busy, caught up in life's moments, big and small . . .

The flight attendant working a shift on her birthday.

The mother struggling alone with two young children.

The newlyweds excited about their tropical honeymoon .

The overworked father missing his kid’s big show.

The young man returning from his best friend’s funeral.

The ER nurse wondering what retirement will bring.

All strangers. All unsuspecting. Each with a life heading in a particular direction – or so they imagine.

Because an elderly woman is about to step into each of their paths. In just a few words, she will make a prediction, tying herself to all of them. And, in being bound to her, these disparate strangers will all face similar existential dilemmas. .

Who is this woman? Is she a genuine clairvoyant? A charlatan? The answer to prayers, or a harbinger of nightmares?

What she will prove to be is an agent of chaos, fraying relationships, putting entire futures into doubt and causing the most ordered of lives to unravel in the most unexpected of ways . . .

Editorial Review

Liane Moriarty always keeps me guessing
Between character, setting and plot, I’m pretty much always a character person. And while the characters in Here One Moment are each fascinating and complex in their own right, I was blown away by Liane Moriarty’s plotting. The narrative is so intricately layered, each detail so carefully placed, that it left me awestruck. Our central character, Cherry, is on a flight when she stands up and proceeds to predict the age of death and cause of death for the passengers on-board. What unfolds from there is a riveting and chaotic meditation on free will versus fate as the passengers deal with the predictions in different ways once back in their real lives. It’s a compulsive listen, performed by Moriarty’s longtime collaborator Caroline Lee as Cherry and Geraldine Hakewell as the other passengers, and one I will be recommending for the rest of the year. — Katie O., Audible Editor

Critic reviews

Liane Moriarty is a genuine GENIUS. Here One Moment is off the scale brilliant. The book of her career, I wish I had written it. Warm, witty, wise and wry (Marian Keyes)
A compulsive plotline, intriguing characters, great writing, surprises, humour and tragedy. It'll stay with me (John Boyne)
Liane Moriarty is a master story teller. I read it in one sitting, desperate to know what happened to these characters I’d so quickly come to care about. Brilliant and satisfying (Bella Mackie, Sunday Times bestselling author of How To Kill Your Family)
A riveting story so wild you don’t know how she’ll land it, and then she does, on a dime (Anne Lamott, #1 New York Times bestselling author)
Funny, frightening, heartbreaking and life-affirming. Here One Moment delves into the notion of fate and its freedoms and constraints, mortality, fear, friendship and love. I adored it (Chris Whitaker, New York Times bestselling author of We Begin at the End)

I loved this book and all its complex characters. The way the stories intertwined was so clever and each character seemed believable and real. The premise of knowing when your time is up makes you think about what you would do with your remaining time. I was sad to finish this book and can see it being a tv series like some of the authors previous books.

I absolutely loved here one moment. I found it very thought-provoking and it had me feeling on edge, the whole way .I loved all the different characters and enjoyed the story immensely. It kept making me think what I would do if I found myself with a prediction like that.

My only small gripe is I found the narrators voice for Cherry, slightly irritating, but it didn’t take away my pure enjoyment of the book.

Fav LM book by far

Liane Moriarty tackles the big questions of life and death with her light and humourous touch. As with all this author's books, the characters are beautifully drawn. You can't help becoming totally invested in their lives and I couldn't put the book down until I'd got to the end. I then had that bereft feeling that you get when you finish a really good book that has grabbed you and pulled you in and that you just have to finish even though you are neglecting other things that you should be getting on with! Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I was totally engrossed.
