About this listen
Having sold millions of copies in print, Bernard Evslin’s classic retelling of the Greek myths captures the excitement and enchantment of these stories that have influenced many of today’s popular films and novels. Easy to understand and fun to read for both adults and children, it is no wonder this book has been taught in schools all over the world. Evslin introduces listeners to the wondrous and terrifying world of superhuman beings, such as Medusa and the Minotaur, and the glory of gods like Zeus, Athena, and Poseidon - brought magically to life through heroes such as Perseus, Daedalus, Prometheus, and others.

Great book
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. It brought me back to my child time, immersed myself in the fantasies of the gods, monsters and magic power.

A great introduction- my 7 year old loves this. Does a good job of glossing over some of the nastier plot points without changing the storylines

Good introduction to the Greek Gods and Myths
Clearly narrated with good expression. I had little knowledge of this subject and found this a very accessible book as an introduction.

Short but good. No foreknowledge required.
I don't know why but people often assume I'll know about Greek Gods and stuff but my knowledge was pretty minimal. I tried Robert Graves' book but that wasn't my cup of tea. This was a great book.
I don't know about the chronology but the stories are told in such a way that you are normally introduced to characters before they appear in other stories which is good.
The stories themselves are pretty uninteresting to start with, the Greek Gods are basically toddlers with superpowers doing random stuff on whims. Around hour 4 the stories shift to those of demi-gods and men which have much more plot depth and are much more interesting.
I don't see the value in Greek myths though. Other than a generalised warning that women are petty, jealous, nasty, cruel and irrational (these stories aren't kind to women, especially mothers) there aren't really any morals or learnings to take away. I'm not sure why these tales are held in such reverance.
The narration is great. Good voice for godding. There's no Hercules or Xena but I think most of the main stories get covered.
