About this listen

AN AMAZON.COM BEST MYSTERY/THRILLER OF THE YEAR

Mallory is delighted to have a new job looking after gorgeous four-year-old Teddy. She's been sober for a year and a half, and she's sure her new nannying role in the affluent suburbs will help keep her on the straight and narrow.

That is until Teddy starts to draw disturbing pictures of his imaginary friend, Anya. It is quite clear to Mallory and to Teddy's parents, even in his crude childlike style, that the woman Teddy is drawing in his pictures is dead.

Teddy's crayons are confiscated and his paper locked away. But the drawings somehow keep coming, telling a frightening story of a woman murdered...and they're getting more sophisticated. But if Teddy isn't drawing the pictures anymore, who is? And what are they trying to tell Mallory about her new home?

Critic reviews

"Whip-smart, creepy as hell and masterfully plotted, Hidden Pictures is the best new thriller I've read in years. Destined to be a classic of the genre." (Ransom Riggs, best-selling author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children)

"I read Hidden Pictures and loved it. The surprises really surprise and it has that hard-to-achieve propulsiveness that won't let you put it down. And the pictures are terrific!" (Stephen King)

Don’t understand the hype

Was ok but it was just basic really, would I recommend? Not really, though might suit younger audiences.

Really well written and orated.

I really loved the characters and the relationships between the characters in the book.

However I didn’t realise coming into it that it would lean as heavily on paranormal. That wasn’t what I was expecting and although executed well, it isn’t something I was seeking!

Worth a read!

I downloaded Hidden Pictures as it had been recommended as a good unpredictable thriller. It was hard to put down and had a really great narrator, but I was a bit disappointed in the paranormal aspect of the story. It’s absolutely worth a listen but didn’t fully live up to the hype behind it for me.

I predict a movie!

Great fun, good narration, cool ending. I'd be surprised if a movie didn't come of it.

A gripping story from start to finish. I found it hard to take a break from listening.

Loved it x

I loved this book and I thought it wouldn’t be good because I listen to it on audible but I just googled the pictures when they were talking about them so I could get the full affect of the book x

A surprisingly addictive story

Whilst I thought this was a little weak in places, it was still a good read mainly due to the clever twist at the end! Would have liked a bit more depth in terms of the main character but that didn't detract from the storyline. Overall a good read . I didn't mind the narrator either, I thought her style suited the story.

Great little read

I’ve been looking at short books for listen to before the new year so I can finish them and start fresh next year. This was a perfect quick paced, twisty book. No sequel as it sums everything up at the end. Great little read that keeps you engaged

Full of suspense and intrigue

The main character and narrator is well-written, flawed and 3 dimensional, meaning it’s easy to get invested and sympathise with her struggles.

The story is a slow-burn thriller. Your typical “is it supernatural, or is it a psychological thriller?” kind of mystery and it works well.

The pacing kept my attention throughout and overall I enjoyed it all the way through - no slow bits.

Definitely worth a read!

Masterfully crafted plot - 10/10

Honestly one of the best thrillers I’ve read in a long time - fantastic plot and rich characters - not too spooky just the right amount of thrill.
