Summary
Sarah Roberts used to be good. Then she did something bad. Very bad. Now, years later, she’s living a good life. She works as a local newspaper reporter and lives with her saintly boyfriend, Jonathan. She has no reason to think her guilty past will ever catch up with her... until Nick walks back into her life. And suddenly, what’s good and bad aren’t so clear to Sarah anymore.
I Did a Bad Thing is dark, funny, wicked and true. Because haven’t we all got a guilty secret?

I most enjoyable little story
I enjoyed this book by Linda Green and the narrator had a lovely clear voice (keeping well away from the microphone (as some narrator's seem to not keep the same distance from the microphone and so the volume is up and down)).
Enjoyed this book I can highly recommend it.

Disappointing
Really loved Linda Green’s other books. This one was a bit boring to be honest which I was surprised about given how great the others were.
That said, I did enjoy the slight comedy style of writing in parts & also loved the narrator who kept me listening.

Utterly unlikeable protagonist in dated rom-com
I may be coming down hard on this book with the benefit of the 12 years which have passed since it's writing, but it has dated so badly that I couldn't recommend that anyone read it now.
The protagonist was so unlikeable I couldn't care less what happened to her. And not because of the "bad thing" (or rather 'things') that she did, which were actually the most understandable of her character flaws. I think this is because the author considered in more detail the nuances of such feelings and behaviours and their causes.
What the author did not explore at all through the character, however, was her internalised misogyny, casual homophobia, and bizarre condemnation of "eco warriors" and "new age bullshit" (the latter amounted to one yoga class!), which I suspect is because these were aspects of the author's own internalised prejudices, which she did not wish to explore.
I would have had more understanding of these problems had this book been written in the 80's/90's, but by 2010, it was seriously outdated already - as was the redundancy process which was described, which would have put the company at risk of (up to) 9 unfair dismissal claims.
I have given 2 stars (rather than 1) as I did make it to the end (by listening at 1.4 speed, so it didn't take too long!) so there was something that kept me interested, and I think this was my interest in the two supporting characters. There are so many books in this world, though, that if you've had the chance to read this review before purchasing the book - go and find an alternative!

Very boring
I gave up about half-way through this chicklit romance as I could not bear to listen to the 'heroine' mooning any more about the man she purportedly loves. The story covers two periods of time alternately, their first meetings and their second meetings, several years later. There is an attempt to liven the story with some political interest and a thread about freedom of the press but these are frequently broken up with the heroine having 'heart-stopping moments' and either catching or not catching the 'hero's' eye across a crowded room! I quickly stopped caring one way or another.
