Summary

Set in the Cotswolds, this is the next instalment in the adventures of Inspector Hobbes, Mrs Goodfellow, and Dregs, as narrated by the still disaster-prone Andy Caplet. It is a rip roaring, funny, and moving tale of Andy's infatuation with a dangerously beautiful woman, starting off during investigations into sheep deaths and the mysterious disappearance of pheasants.

These incidents appear to be connected to a rash of big cat sightings, and something horrible seems to be lurking in the woods. Is Andy cursed to be always unsuccessful in love, or is the curse something much darker, something that will arouse his primeval terrors?

Loved it!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, and no. Having read the series as an ebook first, the stories tended to stay in the mind for a few days. Both readers in our household got withdrawal symptoms. The audio versions are like reading the stories anew, but with familiar characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Inspector Hobbes and the Curse?

Inspector Hobbes. Loved the characterisation and the humour.

What about Tim Campbell’s performance did you like?

A more rounded depth to the characters, giving them a new life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Too busy laughing to be moved.

Any additional comments?

We both love this series and hope the author will write more Inspector Hobbes books.

RP is amiss

The reader pronounced the word broad as brod. Bought as bot. Thought as thot. It’s a common mistake made by young regional actors learning RP. It’s also annoying beyond belief to listen to.
The story’s are good though but with a rather Dislikable main character.

Fantastic book and series

Accident prone main character, a fierce clever inspector and a veteran karate cook. Really amusing and a good mystery too. Brilliant series. Compulsive listening. Great narrator as well.

Another great adventure with the team

a great continuation of the saga with the characters from the first book which flows nicely from where the last one ended.

A real cracker

This is the second in the Inspector Hobbes series and it’s great! We learn a little more about Hobbes and Mrs Goodfellow and it’s another cracking comedy yarn-thoroughly enjoyable with great narration.

What is going on with the accent??

Terrible! the narrator has the worst English accent... 'I thot' and what is a 'sooorsage'?? All the comedy comes from how awkward and pathetic the main character is and it gets old fast. There was hardly any plot. Bad.
