About this listen
Jaws is the classic blockbuster thriller that inspired the three-time Academy Award-winning Steven Spielberg movie and made millions of beachgoers afraid to go into the water. Experience the thrill of helpless horror again—or for the first time!
Jaws was number 48 in the American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Movies, and the film earned the coveted number-one spot on the Bravo network's 100 Scariest Movie Moments countdown.
This timeless tale of man-eating terror that spawned a movie franchise, two video games, a Universal Studios theme park attraction, and two musicals is finally available on audio for the first time ever!

A rare case where the film is superior
Having seen the movie many times I know this story pretty well, so it was interesting to see how the book differs. It more similar than many book to movie translations, and in all honesty the areas where it differs were weaker aspects which Spielberg was right to remove or change.
The characters we all know from the movie are all present, although they're generally less likeable, Hooper especially. The book really takes its time though, with very little happening right up until the end, dare I say it, there's a lot of filler in here. Again, Spielberg corrected this weakness in the movie and added several action sequences to raise the tension.
Taken on its own merits this is a solid book, but the movie is superior in every way. It's read very well though.
Is it a book about a shark? No, not really. The movie is about a shark though.

Good Listen
Enjoyable, especially if you're a fan of the film. The narrator was reading a little slow but putting the speed up to 1.25x soon solved that issue. Definitely worth a listen.

excellent
It's different from the film, but I am a big fan of both. Excellent reading and listening, I've listened to this twice now and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. I may actually restart it as I'm a huge Jaws fan .

amazing performance and gripping story
I really enjoyed this audio book. The performance by Erik Steele was superb and he manages to give each person a their own deep personality. The story was great and many places it gives more character build-up than the movie, but then again there are places in the story where I wish there were more focus on the shark than the relationships. all in all a great book.

Sea, surf and.... SHARK!
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I'm sure lots of people will disagree, but I prefer the movie!
Was Jaws worth the listening time?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
I remember reading this novel when it first came out, sorry to write that I was disappointed in it the second time around.

Watery tale
Expected this to be good but not quite the brilliance of the movie - but I was wrong. Very much enjoyed it, great tension throughout. Follows a story strand re Ellen Brody that they did not include in the movie that is not necessary but the rest is in effect a monster tale told perfectly.

Mixed feelings...
If, like me, you read the book after you'd seen the film, you'd probably have an expectation that the book would, as in many cases, be better than the film and give you a better understanding of the plot and characters etc. But in this case, you'd be wrong.
I think it's important to say that I adore the film! I've watched it more times than I care to mention and therefore was really keen to listen to the book to find out more about the story. However, the book is so very different from the film in so many ways, that you almost can't relate the two. The people and events that you've come to know (and love) on screen almost seem alien to those on paper.
I therefore just listened to the book as if I hadn't seen the film and found I didn't really enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The narrator also wasn't to my taste - a bit too dull and monotone in places, especially given the scenarios he was describing. His Quint accent was funny though!!
