About this listen

'Eleanor is annoyingly clever & maddeningly funny as this book proves. She may have to be destroyed.' -Dawn French

Take a tour of the past and uncover stories of the women whose lives and achievements have shaped our modern world. In Life Lessons from Historical Women, Eleanor Morton celebrates the ordinary women whose decisions and accomplishments in their everyday lives resonate with us today.

Taking inspiration from the thriving self-help genre, Morton reasons that the greatest lessons can be taken from the female forebears who have come before - women whose actions inspire purpose, creativity and rebellion... without a side of pseudo psychology and judgement...

Covering the full gamut of the female experience, and women from all corners of history and the globe, Life Lessons from Historical Women includes chapters on 'How To Thrive' with Judith Kerr, 'Think Like an Entrepreneur' with Mary Seacole, and 'How Not to Give a Fuck' with the famous suffragette martyr Emily Davison.

Whether it's what we can learn from the first woman to summit Everest or the trailblazing ladies who confirm that pockets have always been must-have in women's clothing, Eleanor writes with humour and a sincere respect for our history, and imparts valuable lessons for the modern female.©2024 Eleanor Morton (P)2024 Orion Publishing Group Limited

Critic reviews

Eleanor knows loads about history, and she's really funny, so I consider her an existential threat to my career. I will not rest until this fantastic book is banned! (Greg Jenner, public historian, host & creator of You’re Dead To Me)

Both entertaining and enlightening

I loved this book; it was great fun, and very informative! The featured women are a brilliant and diverse array of the familiar and the unknown to me. Their stories have sent me off down rabbit holes to learn more. It makes a huge difference to have audiobooks read by the author, I don't think anyone else could have conveyed Eleanor's laid back, dry wit properly. She's a very relatable, likeable narrator who makes even the darker life stories accessible.

Enjoyable and educational

Morton has done a great job here. Its fun, its interesting, i learned about some new women I need to look up and is very much grounded in the modern day and its current issues as related to these past women.

Great to listen to the author herself

Loved the stories about so many inspiring women that I had not heard about before or only very limited.
