Fantastic
Thoroughly enjoyed the book and the narrator - he did the voices very well indeed

Better and better with each book.
Well, I had tears in my eyes at the end, no spoilers.
Once again, we have a story which takes us on a roller coaster ride through Alex Veras’ life as a
Mage. So much happens here that it sometimes difficult to keep up! As someone once said ‘Hang on tight, it’s going to be a bumpy ride’!

Another day another battle
I really wish that these Verus books were better than they are. The magical setup is good, characters are diverse and story arc keeps you guessing but the books are always a bit disappointing.
There’s very little ‘real’ London in this book, many of the most interesting characters and devices are absent.
It’s all shouty political and military manoeuvres with some soppy love interest thrown in.
Set pieces conjure up gaming visuals and the narration is increasingly like a straight-to-video voiceover.
Central character Anne is dull by name, dull by nature. And this instalment is pretty dull too, which is a real shame. But the cover is nice.

Verus Close To Disaster Again
More character development perhaps in this novel. Verus comes to close quarters with some of his personal fears.

A bit repetitive but still very good
I enjoy the political drama as well as the information on the history of magic and magical creatures, but the story is getting a bit repetitive with Alex being sent out on yet another quest while everyone thinks he is playing for the other team. And indeed by the end of it, morally he is taking another step in this direction.
Surely we are slowly entering the final stretch of the story and I hope that the author can really make it come together.

what a cliffhanger - but a good one
several exciting twists; excellent display of the growth of the characters from the first and second books. And a much more in depth dive into the politics of the world. let's just hope Alex and Caldara can get on...

Brilliant - but read/listen to all books in order
The story takes on a life of its own. The narrator- same in all the books so far - makes all characters believable, solid. It all becomes real, the dimensions, beings, politics, people, settings, the story. I never know what's going to happen and still it is all credible, there's logic. Love it!!
