About this listen

The first book in a new series from New York Times best-selling author M A Comley, who has sold over two and a half million books worldwide.

He stands in the shadows. Watching them. DI Sara Ramsey's life is about to change forever. Recently moved to the area and in charge of a new team, she's tasked with finding a serial killer terrorising a rural community. Crimes as heinous as this rarely happen in picturesque rural idylls.

The community is living in fear, desperate for Sara to keep them safe. When the killer changes his MO and abducts a vulnerable resident, Sara realises she is in a race against time to prevent the killer from claiming yet another victim.

Good story shocking narration

I’ve listened to M A Comley books before and they’re pretty good. This one though, I couldn’t finish due to bizarre narration. The accent was so peculiar and I’ve never heard anyone pronounce Malaga as Malaarga before, that’s when I knew it was time to give up. Shame

Easy listen but room for improvement

I think the author needs to work on dialogue to improve characterisation. Easy listening thriller.

Wow!

What a rollercoaster this story has been! I've been sad, glad and mad in quick succession!
As always, this author has created believable characters who have depth - I like Sara Ramsey immensely and want to meet her cat! Sara has returned to live near her parents after suffering a personal tragedy, and is now discovering that the dark side of human nature is alive and well in the sticks when someone begins attacking and murdering elderly couples in the vicinity.
Although Sara brings this investigation to a satisfactory conclusion, we are left with a cliff- cliff-hanger, so I am now waiting for the second book in the series to appear in audiobook!

Good start to the series

I found this on audible plus and it took me a while to get into so I stopped for a while. Then something clicked and it got really interesting - so much so already onto book 2.

As is common there is a back story with the main character which slowly evolves and the other team members get to learn her history.
I really liked the touches to the scenery, I cant remember listening to a book set in this area and the way it explained everything has just wanted me to go on holiday there.

The narration for me really worked

Fantastic

I really enjoyed listening to this story, it helped my many bus journeys. A well matched narrator.

real tongue in cheek stuff

Great characters- had me laughing out loud at some of the one liners! Great story and the humour keeps it all going but still maintaining a serious theme...

Great characters

I’ve read these and now listening to them. The narrator brings to life and keeps the tempo going really well.
Sara is a great character and the team around her are fun but full characters too.
She’s in charge of a horrendous case and though she’s had a difficult time she’s strong and can deal.
But is someone out to get her? You’ll have to listen to find out. A def must.

dull

the story was predictable and the writing and characters were too stiff and awkward. the narrator was OK but a bit mono tone at times . I will not be reading the rest of the series

Enjoyable

Format: audiobook
Narrator: Sarah Cullum

So glad I found this author and this series.
DI Sarah Ramsey moves to a quiet town after her husband is killed, a slower pace is just what she needs but then a double murder occurs, is she ready for this case or will it trigger her over the devastating loss she’s already suffered.
A great story that left me wanting more from DI Ramsey, I’ll definitely be downloading the next book.

The narrator does a great job, a good narrator enhances a good book and Sarah Cullum does just that, I’ll be looking for more she’s done.

I really wanted to like this…

I’m not sure how I would have reviewed this book had I read it rather than listened to it. The narration was, I hate to say it and be so critical, but awful, so many times there were mistakes on location - the books are set in Hereford/Herefordshire, but the narrator repeatedly said Hereford/HerTfordshire. The dialogue and conversation between characters was so off and awkward, there was no real investigating of the crime, it solved itself. I will try the next one…
