About this listen
From New York Times bestselling author, Kim Harrison, comes the first book in an exciting urban fantasy series; packed with the perfect balance of wry humour and thrilling action, which will delight fans of thrillers and fantasy alike.
Rachel Morgan is a white witch and runner working for Inderland Security, in an alternate world where a bioengineered virus wiped out a great deal of the world's human population – exposing the existence of the supernatural communities that had long lived alongside humanity.
For the last five years Rachel has been tracking down law-breaking Inderlanders in modern-day Cincinnati, but now she wants to leave and start her own agency. Her only problem is that no one quits the I.S.
Marked for death, Rachel will have to fend off fairy assassins and homicidal weres armed with an assortment of nasty curses. She's a dead witch walking unless she can appease her former employers by exposing the city's most prominent citizen as a drug lord. But making an enemy of the ambiguous Trent Kalamack is just as deadly as leaving the I.S.

‘action packed … chick-lit with a supernatural twist.‘
The Times
‘A spellbinding blend of sharp wit and vivid imagination. A wonderfully fun romp through the supernatural world.’
Kelly Armstrong
‘Discovering a new series like this is like finding buried treasure.’
Diana Gabaldon
This popped up in my suggestions and so I tried it
At first book there is hope I have found another series. This book is flawed but the heroine and her friends are likeable enough and I will definitely be giving book 2 a listen soon
The good - I like the characters, it has a decent enough plot and even the baddie is likeable in a way, Narration is good but not outstanding
The bad - Rachel makes some strange decisions which are infuriating there are some contradictions a few of the plot twists are not really believable ( I know a story with witches vampires demons etc requires a suspension of disbelief but this is something beyond that )
Hoping that as the series grows the writing gets better but will find out no doubt in the coming weeks
Has possibilities

Where does Rachel Morgan: The Hollows (1) - Dead Witch Walking rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's probably in the top 25, bearing in mind my top two series span 13 books each...What other book might you compare Rachel Morgan: The Hollows (1) - Dead Witch Walking to, and why?
It sits on my bookshelf next to Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld [start with Bitten] and Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden [Start with Fool Moon] and consider them to be similar but individual.Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I have a few performances by Marguerite Gavin, personally she's not too bad to listen to, but i'm not American and do find it a little grating hearing some of the accents. For some reason, when I read I don't hear accents as such.If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Jumps to conclusions and kicks ass.Any additional comments?
I already own the paperbacks of these and the kindle editions too. But lately I have little time to read and can fit in audiobooks. I have found myself, more and more of late, continuing series in Audio, as the great expense of a hardback hits my budget. My audible account is paid for by my family as a gift each year, so find this a great way to still get my series fix :)Great to re-enter the Hollows again!

Nice pace to the story and had me snagged early on.
Good listen.

This first book introduces us to this world and the characters living within but has a great storyline and sets up the rest of the series, be advised you do need to read in order – give it a go and I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I do.
A great start to a fantastic series

Before this I had never heard anything ready by Marguerite, she's charming, engaging & has a good voice for this style of book - after hearing the first few chapters I did a little research on her and quite often she's rated as one of the best narrators, and it's understandable why - not only does she dramatically change her voice per character, but she also adds personality to what is being said
I've noticed something about most of the narrators on this site, each has a little quirk about their pronunciation - some say a few words wrong, some say one or two, some get annoying when they mis-pronounce words, some are just frustrating (why can't someone say the word "lived" properly???), but Marguerite only has a couple of minor ones which aren't that much impact, so it doesn't grate as much as others have
Overall, this book is great, it's well written, well read and is a new series that I'm picking up!
A great new finding, both author and narrator

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would have given it more time. The writer keeps describing people and atmospheres instead of really saying what's going on, so the story is really hard to follow sometimes. Additionally, describing Ivy's eyes for ten minutes every time she is mentioned gets annoying super fast.Which character – as performed by Marguerite Gavin – was your favourite?
I did not like the two main characters. Ivy, as said previously, was described way too much, which made it hard to see why she was described as mysterious and quiet sometimes. Rachel seemed very disconnected, it sometimes felt like her personality shifted and changed as the story progressed and she was not narrated very well. Jenks, their Pixy, probably was one of the only really enjoyable characters being a bit sarcastic, funny and having a strong and clear character development and description.Do you think Rachel Morgan: The Hollows (1) - Dead Witch Walking needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
I already does have a follow up book but I'm not sure if I will give it a try yet. There definitely is huge potential to continue this story and come up with new adventures.Any additional comments?
If you like very descriptive audiobooks with lots of talk about atmospheres, the way someone's eyes look and notes of every movement of their face, this will be the book for you. If you need a strong and consistent storyline from beginning to the end, it's probably not the audiobook for you.Lacks a strong storyline
