About this listen

Book two in the magnificent Empire Trilogy by bestselling authors Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurts.

Nobody knows how to play the Game of the Council better than Mara of the Acoma. Through bloody political manoeuvring she has become a powerful force within the Empire; but surrounded by deadly rivals, Mara has to be the best simply to stay alive.

But Lady Mara must contend with battles on two fronts: in the hotbed of intrigue and treachery that is the court of Tsurani; and in her heart, where her affection for a barbarian slave from the enemy world of Midkemia leads her to question the principles by which she lives.

Servant of the Empire is the second in Feist and Wurts’ wonderful epic trilogy – one of the most successful fantasy collaborations of all time. The trilogy concludes with the third book, Mistress of the Empire.

such an exciting and intrigueing story!

loved the setup and details of the complex politics and traditions that are only touched slightly in the initial rift war saga, these follow ups from Akoma perspective are very cool to experience.

"Page turner"

I devoured the book when it was in my possession, foolishly gave the series away. Brilliant series and highly recommend it. Gripping and deep at the same time.

Totally astounding, even supersedes first book!

After listening to Daughter of the Empire, I didn't think it could get much better, but my goodness, this book delivered in spades! Incredible writing, incredible performance. I remember looking at the price and thinking it steep, but it was worth every penny and more.

Political fantasy at its best. Highly recommended

Gradually gets better as you go forth. Great look at breaking traditions and slavery and comparing cultures

A wonderful book

Would you listen to Servant of the Empire again? Why?

I had forgotten how good this trilogy is. It is one of the few books that really made me choke up at the end - wont tell you if it was for a happy or sad reason, wouldn't want to spoil it! But this is a fantastically believable set of characters, so beautifully read that you really feel for so many of them. And yet the book is so long and complex that it really needs more than one read!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Servant of the Empire?

The final meeting in the council chamber, and not knowing who will win or how, but hoping it will all come together.

What about Tania Rodrigues’s performance did you like?

I loved the way she expressed the emotions of the characters whilst still keeping the sense of their "honorable" detachment from noticeable feelings.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, as above, one of the few books to have made me feel so emotional at the end.

Any additional comments?

Please audible, bring out the final part of the trilogy soon, I cant wait to hear the story again!

Excellent

Stunning storytelling and exceptional narration. Tania Rodriguez creates a visual accompaniment to this story and brings alive all the characters, especially giving life to Mara. Achieving a great standard on the make voices too, she does grand justice to an amazing writers work. Fantastic
