About this listen
During a communion service, the teenage son of a vicar attacks his father with an axe. The horrified congregation watch the son escape, and rumours arise that the boy was involved in devil worship. Professor Matt Hunter is brought in to advise, yet he quickly suspects the church attack may have a far more complex cause.
Meanwhile, a 10-year-old boy called Ever grows up in a small Christian cult. The group believe they are the only true humans left, and they're working on a ritual that will bring peace and paradise to the world. Soon, the worlds of Matt and Ever will collide in one awful, terrifying night....

Fantastic nightmare of a story
I confess to being a Matt Hunter fan, so when this one popped up in the new releases I had to grab it, and then re-read books 1 and 2, just to get the maximum benefit from this one, so, finally I got around to listen to 'Severed' yesterday and WOW, I did not stop once I'd started.
It's a highly charged, atmospheric nightmare of a story, which has been compared to John Connolly's Charlie Parker series which whilst I think that may be a bit of a stretch it is not wandering too far from the truth.
A weird cult with some even weirder ideas has decided that the end is nigh and it's their job to bring it about in one of two ways. Needless to say poor Matt Hunter gets caught up in the middle of it all, he's a mayhem magnet and that's why we love him.
The nightmare creatures from 'Unleashed' make a brief appearance too which makes me wonder just what evils will pop up in book 4 ('Possessed') .

When the Hunter becomes the hunted (I thnk you 🤡)
Yet another brilliant, and yet dark, story by the Sinister Minister.
This is a Matt Hunter story alright, but on steroids.
This story was a side shift with respect to the previous two books in that it all gets rather personal for Matt Hunter.
There were some uncomfortable scenes to deal with, but they were handled very delicately by Peter Laws (author). Peter includes his customary dry wit and comic quips throughout, and places them in the right moments to break up the tension a little.
It was great to have a lot more involvement from Matt's partner Wren in this book. She's a strong personality and she was put to good use in the story.
And there was a lot more home life too. Even police-advising, cult fighting, ex-minister, book-writing academics have to answer to the trials and tribulations of home life. We can't just go gallivanting and negotiating with fanatics without a little negotiation at home first!
I can't wait for the next installment.
