Summary
He’s a down-to-earth highland farmer. She’s the rebellious daughter of Hollywood royalty. They might seem like they’re from different worlds, but that won’t stop them from engaging in a marriage of convenience
It’s been five years since Jared McCulloch’s grandfather Collum passed away and he inherited his farm in the Scottish Highlands. After his grandad saved him from his past life, Jared is determined to honor Collum’s legacy. But not only has a series of bad luck put him in danger of losing the farm, his estranged father is disputing the will. In a desperate situation, Jared realizes he’ll do just about anything to save the land.
Even marrying Allegra Howard, a woman he’s avoided at all costs.
A woman who tempts him beyond reason.
There’s only one place that makes Allegra Howard feel safe; one place that feeds her artist’s soul. Allegra wants to settle down in Scotland and expand her business. But there’s a hitch: immigration intends to return her to US soil. Panicked, Allegra finds the one person just as desperate as she is. The same person she’s lusted after for years. In exchange for marrying her, she’ll invest financially in Jared McCulloch’s farm.
However, living together only forces them to acknowledge their searing mutual attraction. And with it comes an undeniable emotional connection Jared’s not sure he’s ready for. Yet, blurring the lines of their arrangement is the least of his concerns when someone begins terrorizing the farm. Allegra and Jared came together to save what matters most and now that might just be each other. And unless they can figure out which of their pasts has returned to torment them, they could lose their chance at a real future together...

Shane Easton as a broody Scotsman
Set five years after the previous books, Skies Over Caledonia is the story of a gruff Scottish farmer in Jared McCulloch and Hollywood princess and aspiring artist Allegra Howard. When Allegra faces not being able to return to country she has grown to love and the only place she feels safe, the only plan she can come up with is marriage to a local. Casting her eye about for a likely candidate she soon lands on Jared who is in danger of losing the farm he loves and proposes a marriage of convenience.
This was a fantastic smalltown romance with plenty of slowburn, steamy tension between the hero and heroine and a strong dose of mystery and suspense as a series of events befall the farm and its occupants as danger once again lurks in the picturesque Scottish Highlands. Chemistry abounds between Jared and Allegra who have been dancing around each other for the last few books but the usually confident Jared didn’t think he was good enough for the wealthy Allegra. He was weighed down with guilt over the possibility of losing the farm and letting his grandfather and his estranged father had now reappeared in his life ready to cause trouble. Allegra also had her secrets that caused a teenage rebellion, something her family never let her forget but with Jared she finally has someone she can open up to and someone who will share her burden. He was the first person to really look at her and see her strength. The tension between them was years in the making but that just made things all the more explosive when they finally gave into the passion.
As with previous books in this series, dual narration was once again provided by the fabulous Shane East, one of my favourite male narrators especially when the character he’s voicing is a broody Scotsman such as Jared McCulloch with Stella Hunter voicing the part of American Allegra. Together these performers have a fantastic chemistry and brought these characters to life. Kudos especially to Shane for his emphasis on one word in particular that gives me chills every time I hear him say it.
