Summary
The thrilling 24th instalment in Peter Robinson's number one best-selling Banks Series.
A shocking mass murder occurs at a wedding in a small Dales church, and a huge manhunt follows. Eventually the shooter is run to ground, and things take their inevitable course. But Banks is plagued with doubts as to exactly what happened outside the church that day and why.
Struggling with the death of his first serious girlfriend and the return of profiler Jenny Fuller into his life, Banks feels the need to dig deeper into the murders, and as he does so, he uncovers forensic and psychological puzzles that lead him to the past secrets that might just provide the answers he is looking for. When the surprising truth becomes clear, it is almost too late.

Very enjoyable
A good story, but a little predictable, I figured out who the killer was quite early on.
I liked the way the story was read with some sound effects that helped my imagination.
An enjoyable Peter Robinson book. I will recommend it to my mum who also likes this author and the characters in his stories.

One of his best
The intertwined plots and character descriptions brings the reader/listener into the story. This is one if his very best.

A good step along the way
Great performance as ever. Not such an intriguing story but still good and I liked hearing about Banks' maturing and past catching up with him... kind of makes him more authentic as he goes through his life and starts the glide path to retirement... didn't detract from the story for me at all, unlike some other reviews...

I wonder if the narrator has a cold?
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not really I found myself increasingly annoyed by the heavy breathing of the narrator
If you’ve listened to books by Peter Robinson before, how does this one compare?
not well, it wasn't a gripping read, if it was I may have been able to forgive the terrible narration.
How could the performance have been better?
the narration was annoying due to his regular heavy intake of breath
Did Sleeping in the Ground inspire you to do anything?
no

As good as ever
After some very hit and miss audio books, it was an absolute pleasure to listen to something by such a great author. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Consistent characterization and a good plot. I've listened to all the DCI Banks novels and they are uniformly excellent. What a shame the TV series was so miss-cast.

One let down
It’s a shame that Alan Banks hasn’t moved forward with the times and still thinks it’s ok to eat fois gras
