About this listen

The thrilling 24th instalment in Peter Robinson's number one best-selling Banks Series.

A shocking mass murder occurs at a wedding in a small Dales church, and a huge manhunt follows. Eventually the shooter is run to ground, and things take their inevitable course. But Banks is plagued with doubts as to exactly what happened outside the church that day and why.

Struggling with the death of his first serious girlfriend and the return of profiler Jenny Fuller into his life, Banks feels the need to dig deeper into the murders, and as he does so, he uncovers forensic and psychological puzzles that lead him to the past secrets that might just provide the answers he is looking for. When the surprising truth becomes clear, it is almost too late.

This one was too predictable for me. The dual strands of the old murder and New made it quite obvious where we were heading. Not a classic Banks but still enjoyed it and it's well written. I could do without the condescending music and poetry stuff but at least Alan isn't an Alcoholic.

A little predictable ....

The story had me hooked but found the narrator slightly lightweight in timbre and tone.

Gripping story

A good story, but a little predictable, I figured out who the killer was quite early on.
I liked the way the story was read with some sound effects that helped my imagination.

An enjoyable Peter Robinson book. I will recommend it to my mum who also likes this author and the characters in his stories.

The intertwined plots and character descriptions brings the reader/listener into the story. This is one if his very best.

This is another good story from dci banks I love these books you get immersed and can't put it down. Narrator was a pleasure to Liston too.

Really compelling, human story telling, from all perspectives. Loved it. Cannot wait for the next one.

Best one for a few books

I’ve read almost all the Alan Banks stories, and this one didn’t disappoint. I guessed who the killer was fairly easily but that didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the book. As always, well narrated by Simon Slater

Another great story

Great performance as ever. Not such an intriguing story but still good and I liked hearing about Banks' maturing and past catching up with him... kind of makes him more authentic as he goes through his life and starts the glide path to retirement... didn't detract from the story for me at all, unlike some other reviews...

A good step along the way

As a big fan of the DCI Banks mysteries this is one of the best yet. Well crafted and gripping to the end.
