About this listen

Welcome to New Beam City. A vast, futuristic city of lights and cutting edge technology. A supercity vibrant with life, human and newly innovated utilization of machines.

At its center stands the monolithic Cloud 9 building. The largest super structure of any era, Cloud 9 is the main creator of New Beam City’s remedies for the common and the elite alike.

Follow former underground fighter turned inventor, Clain, who embarks on a journey to the city’s lowliest of places to the towering heights of Cloud 9. His story begins with a visit from a royal stranger, commotion in the neighboring alley, and a shocking injury that will alter his life forever. A roller coaster experience through a cyberpunk city featuring a remarkable group of characters, the machinations of a mega corporation, and enough action to fill a two hour movie, this first entry in an exciting new series is a must read for sci-fi, action and anime fans.

Awesome narration of a great story

This is the first time I've heard Zachary narrate a book and he did an amazing job. I have already read the book but it was so good to listen to the characters and their personalities.

The voice acting of the dialog between the characters were great and I could really feel the emotions come out from his work. In a small amount, there were voice effects used in a few of the lines which were good to hear and helped set the atmosphere where they were used. Hearing the descriptions of the actions and fighting aided my imagination in painting a stronger picture than I did before.

From somebody who has already read the book it was fun to hear the story in a different way from how I'd imagined hearing it and seeing how far or close I was to it.

I really hope to hear Zachary narrating book 2.

Great listen, Great detail

Loved listening to this book, the narrators voice was easy to listen too coupled with the great story behind it, descriping the areas and landscape to help you visualise the world, desriptions of each character to help you visualise them as they develop.

overall great listen and would highly recommend

Cyberpunk with a hint of Manga

After a slower start the story picks up and I didn't wanna stop.

A great book to start your way into the Cyberpunk genre. Fantastic lively narration throughout the whole audio book.
It has Shonen Manga characteristics which go well inside the world and events surrounding the characters.

I highly recommend to give it a try.

A really fun cyberpunk adventure

This was a lot of fun to listen to. The performance is amazing, and that voice modulation for Synric is chef’s kiss.

I really enjoyed the story and the characters. I’m not really one for fighting scenes - although I did enjoy Clain’s deductions and Dawn’s style, but I love all of the character moments. I super got into the story after the tournament, I felt it really came into its own, and left me wanting more by the conclusion. The characters are all memorable, with each feeling unique and bringing something fresh to the narrative. This was a lot of fun

Thoroughly Enjoyable

A very nice cyberpunk yarn that keeps a good pace throughout. Excellent narration with enjoyable delivery.
If I had one complaint, it would be that it seemed short, but even that is intentional because it is part of a series.
I em very much looking forward to the following books and the further development of the characters. I think Dawn is my favorite, a beast with a heart of gold :)

Yep! Narrator Understood the Assignment!

🎧 l expect nothing less than a performance when l see ‘Narrated by Zachary Johnson’ and yes, he met all my expectations!! Gleefully heard were ZJ’s non-human characterisations: listen for the tone and manner of information dumps sounding like a polished voice over for a documentary or a promotional video for a global corporation. Vocal effects were judiciously used to depict AI and comms, effectively creating an immersive cyber-tech experience. Humans snap, snarl, smile indulgently etc. and you had best believe that you heard it. Finally, Zachary performed the cyber enhanced fight scenes so that I felt I was reading manga!! No question, with his vibe, energy, pacing and perfectly pitched vocals, Mr. Johnson absolutely understood the assignment!

The tropes, fantasy and cyberpunk influences are worn on the sleeve but C R Mix has his own refreshing POV. I loved the straightforward yet evocative language and soaked up every deliciously unexpected use of adjectives! Though I eyeroll over done names like Honey, this is balanced by Pho King. Really?! LOL! Unfolding crisply, SOS:AL is a tautly plotted, ever advancing action-adventure with characters and threads seamlessly introduced right through to the end. Why three stars? This felt like a proof of concept for the world and characters rather than a fully fleshed out novella. A personal gripe? I did not care for children driving major plot points so I hope adult characters are front and centre in future installments.
