About this listen

A lethal virogen, inimical to all conventional forms of plant life, threatens the entire Federation with starvation and dissolution. In this moment of Starfleet's greatest need, Captain James T. Kirk, long believed dead, embarks on a desperate quest to find the true source of the mysterious virogen. Elsewhere in the galaxy, Ambassador Spock, his diplomatic efforts stalled by the spread of famine and chaos, returns to his native world of Vulcan to confront a mystery of a deeply personal nature - an investigation that soon leads him to a reunion with a long-lost friend he never expected to see again. Kirk and Spock, together again, must join forces to save a new generation from an awesome menace unleashed by a ruthless interplanetary conspiracy.

Star Trek "Avenger" william shatner.

What did you like most about Star Trek: Avenger (Adapted)?

This is the third novel by William Shatner relating the further adventures of Captain James T. Kirk, following on from "Ashes of Eden", and "The Return". It is probably the best of the trillogy and Shatner, as author, knows how to read the stories. It brings back Spock and the crew of the Next Generation (Picard et all) in a story about eco-terrorism and an attempt to destroy the Federation. Shatner is obviously a much better author than he is a director (Star Trek V : The Final Frontier --- A Very Forgettable movie). He went on to write another trillogy about Kirk after this one, which I believe focusses on the alternate universe theory and Kirk's double from that universe. Although i give this recording five stars, listeners should be aware that this is an abridgement of the novel only. I'm sure the actual novel is a better read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Commander Christine McDonald. A feisty young science vessel commander in the mould of Katherine Janeway of "Voyager" fame.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The reunion meeting between Kirk and Spock on Vulcan.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Kirk saves the Federation ----- again.

Any additional comments?

Simon and Schuster produce excellent quality recordings in audio books. I'd say they were one of the best in the business.

Beyond good

Star Trek as always something close to my heart as a kid and into my adult life. the William shatner storys are beyond good. The storys are what star trek is meant to be. If only they have made movie versions of the books.

shatners kirkocentric tale

this is ok. its got a bit too much unnecessary peripheral complexity and crash bang action to come across well in audio. its written by shatner, so kirk gets: a priveledged relationship to sarek, to punch picard and the girl as well as saving the federation via a black hole in the plot!
